What exactly is the IS trying to gain with these barbaric acts? Do they not realize that such acts are going to be viewed with such outrage and serve as a rallying call for their enemies? Wouldn't it be more prudent to their "cause" to simply execute the prisoners in a less barbaric way? I know they make their demands, but they must know they will be turned down. So are they wanting that barbaric image and for other countries to rally against them?



Genuine question, haven't really payed much attention to the fine details, but it feels as if the beheadings do more harm to their cause than it benefits them. Unless they simply want to instill fear into people?

They've learned just that, which is why they've begun editing out the gruesomeness in their videos.

Intimidation. To show they are serious.

Terrorists gonna terror.

But putting a bullet in their head would have the same effect without causing the outrage and painting such a barbaric image of them.

I heard someone talking on CNN about how there are basically a recruiting tool - for foreigners sitting on the fence of Jihad
and to try to show they are a very serious group, but they are actually seriously crazy and those videos clearly show that.
