what do you think the goals of education should be?
Increased knowledge and understanding of fundamental concepts (with a very large emphasis on science and analytical philosophy) as well as the development of practically relevant skills in modern society with an emphasis on future relevance (for example, computer programming). I guess that's a good start.

well i can beat several average chess programs as well and i am a mediocre player, the point to learn games like chess or go is not to win the game, its to improve numberless of skills and having fun at the same time.
Look, I'm all for playing chess, I play myself and think it is fun and probably produces intellectual benefit, but I'm sure as shit not going to advocate forcing all students to play it.

i don't expect to win but i'd be interested in tackling that computer program of yours
Sure I'll have to redownload it since I reformatted my PC recently, I'll let you know when it's done.
