How do we know? There has never been a point in the last two decades at least where there has been no western interference in Middle Eastern affairs. That's half the reason they're so fucking pissed at us.

There have been periods of less and more influence of Western powers though. Plus it's a shitheap in the first place, not in the least because of the whole three faiths having their religious centers there. Makes for one big bowl of arguments about religion, territory etc.

The Scandinavian countries have the good fortune of being small, homogenous nations with abundant natural resources.

Even then you have countries like Sweden that have failed to make progress over time and countries like Norway which have built themselves up on oil wealth.

The only valud answer is the United States, any other answer is just historically incorrect.

How is the United States morally superior to all other countries? Such an assertation is incredibly arrogant and better be backed up by something other than simply because you think so.
