Those things you mentioned are exactly as I said in terms of religious influence independent of the veracity of religious claims. The importance of religion is what it is able to make people do, so it is as arbitrary as something like music, a pet or gardening.

This is virtually the opposite of what I said.

Imo intelligence makes risks in an arena where mistakes are not only possible but necessary. The nuke ended the war, and also taught us the full scale of its effects.

Perhaps its better it happened the way it did, after all the use of nuclear weapons never happened again, so far. Perhaps because of the horrors of witnessing those two events.

For once... Widow is right. Yahweh is a wrathful, genocidal sociopath. Going both by his huge criminal record and the things he has sworn to do in the future he is nothing short of the craziest psycho the world has ever seen. No other god compares and a nuke? Haha! God has already used wmds against the sinful on several occasions. A nuke is the least of your worries when dealing with this murderous nutter.

By this logic, you believe in no ultimate Justice.

And with no ultimate justice, what's the point of living or caring for others?

No, I think by his logic, you're ultimate justice is in the fictional hand of a murderous basket case.

Okay, everybody just consider something for a second, take all the bullshit out of the context when you consider this and simply evaluate the action.

The usage of nuclear weapons during World War II.

We are a supposedly "Christian nation", yes? If Christianity cannot prevent someone from dropping a God damned nuclear bomb on hundreds of thousands of people I propose it is 100% worthless. Christianity is bullshit, I think we can all agree with that, there's nothing holy about the Bible, there's likely no God, yadda yadda yadda, therefore the only value in religion is how it influences people, ideally in a positive manner; be it public or private. And yet, it failed to prevent perhaps the single most devastating action humans have been able to commit to this point.

Anyone who believes they are Christian and somehow supports the nuclear bombs' usage ask yourself this -- under any circumstances, for any reason, period, would Jesus Christ have used the nuclear bomb?

Either you answer no, and remain in sync with your beliefs, or yes, and you acknowledge the shortcoming of the thought and its incompatibility with the real world.

We need a new religion and it starts in this thread.

First commandment: no nukes.

Which part specifically?

I'm dumb, can you rephrase what you meant?

Because I don't base my actions solely on whether or not I think I will be punished for them. I base them on their consequences for myself and others.

Lol sorry if I wasn't clear, what I meant was that the effect it has on people's behavior is NOT the most important aspect of religion, even if it isn't true.

The most important aspect is the phenomonological effect of having faith; the spiritual, mental, personal aspect, how it affects the way somebody FEELS and THINKS. See William James' The Varieties of Religious Experience. This is the most important aspect of religion.
