President Obama has extended the more than 50-year-old embargo on trade to Cuba for another year. In a statement, Obama said the embargo is "in the national interest of the United States." Each year for more than two decades, the United Nations General Assembly has voted overwhelmingly to condemn the U.S. embargo against Cuba. The most recent vote was 188 to 2, with only the United States and Israel supporting the embargo.

US foreign policy is ridiculous, at this point we're just maintaining a tradition

How is that embargo remotely in the interest of the nation? when only the US and Israel are voting for something that tells you what's wrong.

Let's correct a historical mistake and annex what's rightfully ours.

In the short-run meaningful access to Cuban markets will do.

Letting it lapse will enrage the Cuban-American community whose holdings/interests in Cuba were eviscerated by Castro and be seen as a legitimization of the mass theft of private property in Cuba. The president who ends the embargo loses his party's chances of winning Florida in federal elections for the foreseeable future.
