While Assad is certainly less extreme than ISIS, he doesn't warrant our support either. Ideally, Syria would have a secular ruler who doesn't massacre civilians.

There is no situation where you get that. And let's be honest Assad would be one of the most benign rulers America has ever supported if he was an ally. The US hasn't had a good track record with dictators, most of them are psychopaths. At least Assad isn't and he's genuinely interested in making his country a more prosperous place.

The closest the middle east has come to a secular ruler who more or less operates a liberal democracy is Jordan, but if they were completely democratic you can bet an anti-Israel Islamist would have won by now.

Do they have a statistic on how often dogs are used with black, white, and latino? Otherwise that "only" statistic means nothing.
