I hope not... if he's still watching anime as an adult then I've failed him as a father.

I caught him watching some sort of cartoon pornography on his computer the other day. I was horrified, and too embarrassed to confront him about it. And with the way these japanese people make their women characters look like preteen girls, I'm afraid it'll turn him into some sort of pedophile. He should be going out into the world and trying to meet real girls his own age. A kid like him would have been severely picked on at school when I grew up.

If you confront him about it get it on video.

but on a serious note
more often then not diving into all the different worlds that anime provides if a means of an escape.
its not easy for everyone make a lot of friends or to work up the courage to ask a girl out. (worst they can do is say no i know.. but to alot of people that simple word can be devastating)

as long as he finds that happy medium of social life and hobbies i wouldn't worry to much
just make sure he gets a job when hes a little older and that will force him into the world and broaden his horizons a bit

You've already failed him as a father by not accepting his hobbies and interests

Yeah, I checked out that site posted earlier and noticed waaay more than I thought there were. I would just order the wrong one, I know it.

I would just give him a hundred dollars and let him figure it out for himself, but then his mother would have another reason to call me a bad father.

Ha! You sound just like my x-wife. Look, I'm not going to argue with you about parenting, considering someone your age who still watches these cartoons probably doesn't have a family. Hell, you've probably never even had sex with someone you didn't manually inflate minutes before going to town.

I'm doing the best I can. I'll love my boy no matter what, but that doesn't mean I can't be disappointed with him if he grows up to be some kind of virgin. That's why I'm trying to steer him away from these animay shows and toward something manly like sports or boyscouts.

Exactly. I learned more about being a man in 1 summer at boyscouts than most children do through their whole teenage years. Spending the summer camping with other normal boys his age will set him straight.

I'd take him out to go hunting with me and the guys, but he has no interest.

have you been ripped off on amazon? i've always had good results. since it's a topic you know nothing about, i suggest you tell him to pick what he wants.

you want him to meet girls, so you wanna bring him to an all-boy club? sounds like the opposite of what you should be doing. bring him to dance classes. i was at a few group dance sessions last month and there are 2-3 girls for every guy.

my father tried to get me away from my hobbies (chess, anime, fanfic) and into his hobbies (electronics, programming) and i resented him for it. it put a lot of distance between us. i suggest you learn from my dad's mistakes and join him with his hobbies instead of using it as a wall separating you two.

Well he asked for a unicorn gundam toy, so I just assumed it was some kind of toy horse or something.

You didn't even google it? what kind of father doesnt care enough to even look into it when he knows it'll make his son happy?

I don't understand all of this flaming. I'm obviously not up on this sort of thing, which is why I came here. I don't mind if you all do anime; it's your life, I just want my kid to grow up normal.

Dance class? I'm trying to get him butch, not make him into some sort of ballerina.

And I just figured it was related to that my little pony anime show he is always watching. In my day, you could just go to the toy store and buy whatever toy kids wanted, whether it was a furby or a tickle me Elmo or whatever. Didn't think I'd need google, but it turns out there are literally dozens of gundam unicorns to play with.

Anyway, I appreciate everyone's help (those who tried to help anyway). I'll get my son to tell me exactly which model he wants and take it from there.
