The build: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/MNgNxr

Seemed fine yesterday, downloaded LoL, DOTA, played games, everything was dandy. All of a sudden when just using chrome it shut off.

Unplugged it overnight to let capacitors or whatever discharge, took it apart this morning, checked the motherboard standoffs were all fine and everything was actually plugged in properly and put it back together, worked fine.

Was on for about 5 hours, the last 2 or 3 playing DOTA 2, when after a game it suddenly turned off - kinda.

The monitor said "no signal" and the LED went off. As far as I could tell the GPU and CPU fans were off, but the case fans were still on. At a loss for what could be happening now.

Oh and if it's relevant I've not fiddled with any BIOS stuff or anything like that, all still on defaults.

Optical drive light flashes and can open. Mouse lights up.

did you paperclip test your psu?

Make sure all your cables are plugged into the right spots?

When i put togther my brothers computer after I redid his cables that was happening, the colors were wrong for the front io so they were plugged in wrong.

Which cables in particular? Definitely have PSI-E in the GPU, definitely have the right plug for the CPU and the MoBo. Not sure there are any others you could really mean?

I'm hesitant to test the PSU - what will that achieve if it tells me anything? Also given the system has ran for basically 2 days is it still likely that the PSU is an issue?

That could still be a issue yes.
Can you get into bios?

are you an experienced pc builder / have a lot of knowledge on pcs?

it's stuff like this that makes me not want to build a pc; if experienced ppl have puzzling issues, god knows what kind of issues i (a computer rookie) would have. siiiiiighs

if youve never built a computer and you think youre doing it wrong take it to your local computer store you might be doing something entirely wrong. computer stores build your computer, install windows, word, office, update drivers, etc.. for $50-$100. worth it imo.

I left it off for a while, removed the GPU and it's on now using on board graphics. Not sure what's going on exactly.

is your GPU running at stock frequency?

if it's posting with on-board graphics you can likely conclude that it's either a GPU hardware issue or perhaps the modular function of your power supply isn't fully plugged in?

e: did you try placing the GPU in another PCIe slot?

Can't use the other PCI-E slot as the GFX card takes up 2 slots and the physical limitations prevent it.

I figure it must be either GPU or PSU not actually providing enough power at this point. I want to get something to monitor temperature, though, just to check it's not overheating.

do you have another working PC that you can test the GPU in to rule out other components?
