I think it'd be a terrible economic move to legalize it for medical usage given the tax funded healthcare system would foot the bill for all the loophole stoners.

The healthcare system only covers in-hospital drugs 99.999% of the time.

but each hospital would still have to buy up a whole new stock of medication to keep on hand even if it did end up like that.

hospitals would also see an influx of appointments for people trying to get a prescription for it for legitimate and illegitimate reasons.

for something that is basically an optional treatment in most cases it would cost a lot of tax money to put in place for that type of healthcare system.

Medical Marijuana==> 100% legal in Canada.

Hospitals don't buy up pounds of weed. This is ridiculous. There is no situation in which an inpatient would be treated by smoking weed.

apparently i don't keep up with canada info.

i don't see why it's ridiculous considering inpatients still have a use for it. seems like having some on hand at a hospital would be the reasonable way to go if it's considered medicinal.

Marijuana is primarily used in long term pain treatment, a person in a hospital would have no use for it as hospitals are not long term care facilities. At most, if the stay was expected to be long, they'd order cannabis oil, which is extremely cheap.

Bear in mind the distribution of marijuana is far cheaper than most prescription drugs.

Medical Marijuana is not listed as a recognized pharmaceutical in the federal formulary.
There are no public prescription drug plans (including disability) that cover it.
A couple of private plans partially cover it, and some distributers subsidize it for low income users.
Otherwise it's all out of the users own pocket at somewhere between $3 - $15 /gram depending on strength & manufacturer.

Yes. Marijuana needs to be legalized and then we need to get Mark Emery out of jail.
