"disaster" in "industry"

those tend to solve themselves, yes.

You probably haven't played the game, but disasters (like monsters, tornadoes, etc.) occasionally strike your town.

Never played that.

Is it anything like civilization? My friends still worship that game.

Sim City is not the real world. You will get the best results from whatever the game programmers intended to work best.

Undoubtedly, its probably deeply biased, and there are some things that don't come into account for the simulation.

The game engine is based on each person making decisions based on incentives though, I'm guessing it'll give a few notable results.

Day 1:
Endlesssky founds Misesia and inkanddagger founds Marxia

Day 2:
Citizens of Misesia grow at a rate ~7 times faster and have no public services (health care, police, fire) aside from power and garbage disposal. High demand for housing and industrial space despite lack of services. A few citizens manage to be wealthy and attain a high standard of living
Citizens of Marxia have only one economic class and have moderate levels of all services. Many businesses and residencies go unused and abandoned. Citizens complain more but enjoy nearly every public service imaginable

Day 3:
Military air strike levels both cities

I'm definitely the most heavy-handed, authoritarian mayor ever
