I just started this game and I'm having a tough time deciding which profession I want to play as my main so I would like your input. I know this is completely subjective and it's ultimately up to what I like but I'm just curious. Thanks!

It really comes to preference. I started as an Engi, was alright. Made a Guard, use it for dungeons. Made a Necro, fell in love

Spear WW Barb FTW

warriors a good pvm class, you are well rounded and content is never too difficult, i would advise starting that, or guardian

after you've got a good grip on the game you'll know what each class is most effective for, and it will make it alot more fun

Warrior or Guardian as your first character
Put Berserker gear on both W and G for PvE ~ Trait yourself around high AoE DPS ~ Greatswords Greatswords Greatswords
Put Soldiers gear on W for WvW ~ Trait yourself for no precision DPS and high durability
Put Cleric's on G for WvW ~ Trait yourself for raw tanking/healing/condi removal and learn to stay tight on the commander's PIN

SPvP is a bit different, generally you'll want to youtube: gw2 hambow warrior ~ to get started in spvp as a W
Then youtube gw2 guardian bunker ~ to get started in spvp as a G

This is your ticket to building your first set of ascended gear
Save all Dragon Ore/Empyreal Frags/Bloodstone that you find, even if it's stacking up in your bank
You'll eventually need ALL of it, when you go to build ascended
