I thought about making a thread for months now, and then I noticed how many songs I wanted to post which did not fit in any of the existing threads, so I decided to finally make a thread afterall.
Here's a song by Alanis Morissette, the only song from this album with a real rocky sound in my opinion, and everything about it is really great, lyrically and musically.

Artist: Alanis Morissette
Song: Citizen Of The Planet
Album: Flavors of Entanglement
Year: 2008
Genre (song): Rock/metal-ish

Lyric:

I start up in the north I grow from special seed
I sprinkle it with sensibility
from French and Hungarian snow
I linger in the sprouting until my engine's full

Then I move across the sea
To European bliss
To language of poets
As I cut the cord of home
I kiss my mother's mother
look to the horizon

wide eyed, new ground
humbled by my new surroundings

I am a citizen of the planet
My president is kwan yin
My frontier is on an airplane
my prisons: homes for rehabilitating

Then I fly back to my nest, I fly back with my nuclear but everything is different
So I wait, my yearn for home is broadened, patriotism expanded by callings from beyond
So I pack my things nothing precious all things sacred

I am a citizen of the planet
My laws are all of attraction
My punishments are consequences
Separating from source the original sin

I am a citizen of the planet
democracy's kids are sovereign
Where the teachers are the sages
And pedestals fill with every parent

And so, the next few years are blurry, the next decade's a flurry of smells and tastes unknown
Threads sewn straight through this fabric through fields of every color one culture to another

I come alive and I get giddy I am taken and globally naturalized
I am a citizen of the planet
From simple roots through high vision
I am guarded by the angels
My body guides the direction I go in

I am a citizen of the planet
My favorite pastime edge stretching
Besotten with human condition
these ideals are borne from my deepest within

Artist: Adam Harris
Song: Heavens Above (Hixxy Remix)
Album: Bonkers XI
Year: 2003
Genre: Electronic
Style: Happy Hardcore

Lyric:

When the rain falls down I look up to the sky
Picture you up there and all I do is cry
Being here without you is like a dying pain
I'm here looking up, searching for you in the rain
You're looking down on me like a guiding star
I will always love you wherever you are
Being without you is like a dying pain
I'm here looking up, searching for you in the rain
Since they took you from me I have no reason for life
You're in the heavens above, looking down with the light.

Artist: Caladan Brood
Song: Wild Autumn Wind
Album: Echoes Of Battle
Year: 2013
Genre: Epic / Atmospheric Black Metal

Lyric:

Across the plains come drifts of sand From graves of water and tombs of man The hollow weight of history
Desiccated and blowing free

In the wake, all is dust

The bones of beasts and the bones of kings Become dust in the wake of the hymn Mighty kingdoms rise, but they all will fall No more than a breath on the wind

Spectres and gods adrift in the wild, mournful wind
Vast cycles unfold across the span of æons Colossal keeps consumed and left as burial mounds And even stars will fade into empyrean shrouds

In ashen vaults, on parchment scrolls
The echoed verses state soft the toll

In the wake, all is dust

Vast desolation
Silent grave of æons

Revenants watch from cold cosmic towers
Glimmering eyes of jade bear final witness

Temples crumble as the great wheel turns
Ground to dust Monuments and megaliths unnamed Fall the same
Earth and sky enrobed in deathless void
Endless night
Worm of Autumn claims its final throne

The bones of beasts and the bones of kings Become dust in the wake of the hymn Mighty kingdoms rise, but they all will fall No more than a breath on the wind

Very uplifting track, summoning-like, enjoy!

Artist: Dan Mangan/Shane Koyczan
Song: Tragic Turn Of Events / Move Pen Move
Album: Roboteering EP
Year: 2009
Genre: Acoustic/Storyteller

Lyric:

Used to anticipate, the sign of the coming day.
And all through winter's decay, you just mark the way.
Worry what people'd say.
If we up and walked away, I swore we had a place to stay.

Stay. That's what mothers say when their sons and daughters go away. They say "stay." My mother said "go." So I wasn't there the night she fell out of her chair, so frustrated that she amputated her own legs, or rather tried to, with a steak knife. Her life leaking out on the white floor, blossoming like roses in the snow. Her relationship was an anthem composed of words like "gotta go." So we went, and sent our regards on postcards from all the places we'd been, with stories about all the things we'd seen that's how it was with you and I. Why say goodbye when we could still write? And then we took your hands. We should've practiced our goodbyes because then I took your eyes, and I was somewhere in the middle of nowhere watching the sun rise over a stop sign faced down the center line of a highway filled with sudden turns for the worse. Coming back home cause I gotta play nurse. Gotta figure out which pill alleviates which pain, which part of your brain is being used for a boxing bag as your body became a never-ending game of freeze tag taking place in an empty playground, I was left looking for your limbs at a lost and found and I couldn't set you free. So we just sat there, our heads bent towards each other like flowers in the small hours of the morning while light wandered in like a warning that time is passing and you ride a little home with it bit by bit every day. And all I could say is "If I could, I would write you some way out of this but my gift is useless." And you said, "No. Write me a poem to make me happy."

Over the hill and gone, and I'd never been that far.
Some boy along the way, taught me to play guitar.
And you said that you'd read to me, if I fell asleep.
Rock me awake again, promise me.
But you make such beautiful words.

I wrote "Move, pen, move. Write me a bedroom where cures make love to our cancers." But my mother just motions to a bottle full of answers and says, "Help me go." Now I know something of how a piano must feel, when it looks at the fireplace to see sheet music being used for kindling. Smoke signaling the end of some song that I thought it would take too long to learn, so I just sit here watching you burn away. All those notes that never had a chance to play, to hear the music of what you had to say. But I count out the pills, just to see if I can do it. And I can't even get halfway through it before I turn back into your son and say "Stay."

I need something to lean against, I think that's okay.
Butterflies you read to me, they all flew away.
And I'm saddened by the thought, and sometimes I think too much.
And though I'm happy right here, you know that I'm really not.
It's distracting.

I could hook up to my heart to your ears and let my tears be your morphine drip. And maybe it's easier to let you slip away than it is to say goodbye, so I hold my breath. Because in the countdown to death, the question of "Why?" melts into "When? How much time do we have left?" Because if I knew what I know now then move pen move. Write me a mountain because headstones are not big enough. None of this is. Stop it. "Write me a poem to make me happy." I swear write this, "stay." She smiles and says "Gotta go." I know, goodbye.

Over the years it seems, that ageings just not for me.
Though I ache just below the knees, and it flows to my heart.
And then all through the parts I need, it's not how it ought to be.
It's not how it ought to be, it's not how it ought to be.
You're falling away from me, and it's just not right.
Falling away from me, it's not right.
But you make, such beautiful words.
You make, such beautiful words.
Oh now it's, trying. Oh now it's, trying.
Oh how it's, tragic. Oh how it's, tragic.
But you make such beautiful words.

Beautiful story, amazing interpretation as well :>

Artist: FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE
Song: Minotaur (The Wrath of Poseidon)
Album: Labyrinth
Year: 2013
Genre: Technical death metal, symphonic death metal

Lyric:

Caught in this fort of disgrace for a god's oppression
This corridors behold disease
As I am feeding my guts with the flesh of the race of abomination
I collect the souls I bury beneath
Forever tied by the arms of the desolation,
A stain for the sovereign of greed
And I was born like a prince, wickedly raised in devastation
I dishonoured the descent with my seed

Kill the king!

For all the treason he concealed in deceit

Gods, kill for me
Bless my pain
For the monstrosity I had to feel

Gods, kill the king!

Cast in shadow,
Forgotten, lost forever,
Eternal slave,
Prince of darkness
I rule on nothing

Hail!

Asterion, Lord of Suffering

Torn by the lust for control he betrayed Poseidon
The reckoning arises from the sea,
For it's the land of the pain,
Falling from the guilt of the despotic Minos,
Cursed shall be the name for the rest of days.
Blood from the womb of the queen
Pouring like a rainfall,
A stain for the land of the king
The ghastly sperm of the beast fecundates like an infection
I, dishonoured, the abominated beast

Kill the king!

For all the treason he concealed in deceit

Gods, kill for me
Bless my pain
For the monstrosity I had to feel

Gods, kill the king!

Cast in shadow,
Forgotten, lost forever,
Eternal slave,
Prince of darkness
I rule on nothing

Hail!

Asterion, Lord of Suffering

I'm not a big fan of death metal usually, but this album is pretty good in my opinion, it tells stories and it makes it a lot more interesting, good symphonic side too.

Artist: VNV Nation
Song: Carry You
Album: Judgement
Year: 2007
Genre: Futurepop

Lyric:

Conceal your deepest worries
Confine your thoughts inside
The walls you built of damaged pride
The light in your eyes failing
Like you're adrift
Like night pretending to be day
These storms subside

Though the past, the unwanted memories, are holding onto you
All the power in the universe conspires to carry you
Truths you find through your adversities will defend you
As your powers and all your energies conspire to carry you

The adversary to your soul
The blackest thoughts
That try to poison you
These storms subside
Lay down your greatest burden
Relinquish that which has control of you
And let yourself through

Though it seems the past and the future look the same
Suffice to say you're still here

Really one of their best song, great uplifting stuff.

Artist: Urban Species
Song: Destructive
Album: Blanket
Year: 2008
Genre: Hip hop

Lyric:

Lying on his back, staring at the cracks in the ceiling,
Symbolising how he's feeling,
On his face, the sunlight sits, it aids the drying of an eye while he tries to get to grips..
With the fact that the real thing's gone,
He switches on the radio and every other one's a sad song,
Fat lady sings about she slipped through his fingers now the smell of smoke from the ex-flame is all that lingers
Tries to rekindle but the wick's gone down,
Rumages through the mind like a high street tramp,
Desperately, seeking like Susan for a reason,
Mind's cast back before the acts of the treason,
To the times spent and what those times meant,
Realised that she was heaven sent but he was hell bent on destruction,
Just like an arsonist,
The truth hurts, and the truth is that you asked for this,
Suspicious minds (of?) mistrust,
Now is it just reflections of one's own lust
Or is it insecurity that makes a man possessive
His little piece of purity that no-one could mess with destruction

Chorus
Why you do me so ? (Why you wanna do me so?)
Why you do me so ?
I think I know (an appetite for destruction)
You've got an appetite for destruction,
My love for you is like a big obstruction
Destructive Lo-o-ove

2.
We sow like farmers,
Reap the melodrama,
The good times, the bad times, depending on the karma,
As ( ? Juyu / Jew you ?)
What goes around comes back around that's simple,
Invincible's the principle forever and a day so,
As sure as the day glow,
Your bound to get yours bro,
There's no doubt about it,
No if buts, no maybes
Maybes having babies in the belly of the beast
Some looking to the West, some looking to the East
I look inside inside myself where the answers are dwelling in this age of confusion where ignorance is selling itself,
And the masses keep on buying it,
You got your own bro, you made your bed now lie in it,
Or deeper still you die in it,
But I don't wanna die, that's why I multiply,
I sleep and then I fly, through the domains of the astroplanes on my return back to the physical I think I bring the chains of destruction.
