I hear this a lot and I'm kind of tired of it. I don't think pro-life voters want to oppress women, they just don't want abortions happening. It just so happens that only women get pregnant. That's like Viagra is sexist because only men take it.

It's only an issue of women's rights when the baby is a girl.

Just a ploy to demonize philosophical opponents.

By being against the right to an abortion, they are oppressing women who don't want to follow through on the pregnancy. By being against universal health care, they are signing the death warrants of every sick person who can't pay. By being against higher taxes and higher spending, they are oppressing poor people who are subject to shitty jobs. Yadda yadda yadda.

Why do you think liberals are called bleeding hearts? They rely on emotional arguments.

In capitalist society women have to be able to have a career to have a life and live freely. If they cannot control their reproduction, they cannot do that.

That is all. For all you pro-lifers, don't get abortions. Late term abortions are already regulated heavily by the state and aren't given electively, only therapeutically. When the egg is just a non-human clump there is only one party involved in an abortion and everybody else should mind their own business.

Abstinence is a pretty foolproof way for a woman to control her reproduction.

You just don't get it. What you're saying is akin to saying: "Don't like murder? Don't murder anyone!" We want the state to step in and regulate this. HEAVILY.

And besides rape, I don't really see how a woman isn't in control of her reproduction. Actions have consequences.

contraception's fairly efficient, and i'd presume that the statistical errors in their efficiency would fall into some sort of a statistical margin.
but even if all of that fails, it all boils down to

depends on the state. Russian abortion statistics are actually quite terrifying when you think about it.

i do believe in the right to live for the fetuses, and in the best of all possible worlds unwanted children could be born and given into adoption so that they could be taken care of.
however, the fact is that in countries such as Poland and Ireland abortion statistics don't differ that much from many other countries when abortions done in neighbouring countries by Polish/Irish citizens are taken into account.
so i guess i'll have to go with the pragmatist view here.
it's good that late term abortions are controlled in most countries though
