I'd like to tell you guys about some information I've learned to make this place safer. As you guys probably know GW2 uses a mail system, you can send mail with gold and items anytime. There is no permanent message log, a person can take the items they receive and delete the mail afterward. The reason this is important is because of scam accusations. In order to successfully lock someone you not only have to prove that you paid for the item and agreed to the trade, you have to prove that you did not receive the items. In the case of GW2, it is possible for someone to receive the items they paid for, then delete the mail and create an SA accusation, claiming they did not receive anything. For this reason, if you get scammed by someone in GW2 where you pay for an item and do not get what you paid for, it is impossible to prove that you did not receive the item. The only way to prevent this type of scam in GW2 is to use a mediator. This is why I use a mediator for all trades. Stay safe and thanks for reading. :)

Or you could just not be a fucking moron when trading with people

I'd say just don't use FG for trades, but something tells me that would be too difficult for the majority of people here.

3 big reasons of why not.

1. players who frequently mail large amounts to gold to other players are flagged and investigated as gold sellers
2. common sense and safety precautions is just as effective
3. mediators are "very busy" and easily add hours onto an otherwise simple and safe trade

How is this advice going to help people not get scammed. Do elaborate before I label you a troll and a douche.

I don't give half a shit what you label me. Your mini wall of 'don't get scammed' text can be completely avoided with common sense and caution.

I tried to use common sense by trading with an old member, 4 year old account and 5k posts, but the account had been hacked. Fortunately for me the person secured his account and paid me back, but I had no recourse from d2jsp. I guess if you ask the other person to send GW2 gold first it can be safe, but if you send fg first you can't prove you were scammed. Not being able to prove you were scammed means the only way to do a safe trade is with a mediator. If you disagree please use fact based assertions.

Fact: I've done well over 100 trades on the GW1/2 forums
Fact: I've never used a mediator
Fact: I've never been scammed
Fact: You were stupid hence why you got scammed.

It's OK, I should have known better. No one respects what I've written because I'm not a vet on this forum and they prefer the convenience of fast trading over the security of a mediator. That's fine, I hope what happened to me doesn't happen to you.

When trading in GW2, do not send fg first, ask the other person to send the items/gold. If they do not send the items/gold you cannot prove you did not receive them.
