i'm mostly a pvper but i dont want my char to be bad at pve cause i like to do it as well.
what do you guys think would be the best choice?
PvE:* Ranger is better at solo map exploration but causes problems in dungeons/harder tier PvE
The pet causes agro and leads mobs away from stacks and it won't stay stowed when you tell it to (it automatically comes out when combat begins, which is bad in most situations)
Even spirit builds (which is great team DPS buffing in pvp) is terrible in dungeon play for the same reasons
Rangers fuck up mob pulling tactics and often keep the party in combat when they need to be out
* Thief is terrible and slow at map exploration solo play, it gets hit hard and has no pets to distract/take hits and it doesn't have much AoE power but it's great to have in a party during dungeons
Due to group invisibility, overall ability to disengage mobs (even help the entire party disengage) and ability to hit boss targets hard
Thief is a powerful utility in dungeon play
PvP:* Ranger has one purpose in SPvP and that's to bunk mid with a tanky spirit build (which buffs the shit out of everyone's damage when they're at the base with you) ~ even traps are only good for combo fields
Other than that, any other build archetype used on a Ranger is in poor shape right now and everything it does, is done better by other classes
"Engi is a better ranged, hell a Hambow is a better Ranger than a Ranger right now" "All melee classes smash Rangers in Melee" ect.. ect.. The Ranger has no strong points
Even the Spirit Bunker is shoddy compared to a Guard Bunk or a good Engi Bunk with a lot of control effects
In WvW, a Ranger is nice for staying away from zergs but again, while you're firing a longbow, an Engineer is throwing Grenades that deal AoE
Long story short... Ranger just doesn't have a strong purpose right now and if you choose Ranger, it better be because you love the class and how it plays, not because you think it's the better choice
* Thief in SPvP cannot hold a base for shit but it's a great roamer
Your build will inevitably end up being high DPS with maximized invisible capabilities and your job will end up being roaming between home/mid and assisting bunkers when needed, capping far when it's convenient
Great at killing casters/ranged characters in general as it's hard to disengage a Thief or stay away from them at all but you'll be shit on by Warriors and Guardians in melee (considering they are seasoned players)
In WvW, Thiefs roam the map and make it where they need to be quickly and safely, due to maximized invisibiliy, they have the ability to fully escape large zergs and make it out alive
They're great for jumping random roamers around the map but absolutely terrible in a zerg vs zerg standoff in comparison to something like a full soldier's/clerics warrior/guardian or a grenadier
That's pretty much what you're looking at with the current patch
Up to you
