I created this blog to discuss my favorite teams. I'm a Houston sports fanatic and I follow every game when I can.
I'll add some entries every now and then. I just wanted to create a new one so that I can become a blogger again.

The Houston Rockets host the San Antonio Spurs at 8:05 PM Eastern. The game will air nationally on NBA TV as well as locally on CSN Houston. The Rockets are 29-17 and currently the 5th seed in the Western Conference. They have lost two games in a row so hopefully they can win tonight's game. Houston is 2-0 against the Spurs this season with both wins coming in San Antonio. If the Rockets win tonight it will be be the first time since the 1996-1997 season that they won the season series against the Spurs. That was back when Tim Duncan was still a senior at Wake Forest.

Great 97-90 win for the Rockets last night over the Spurs. James Harden didn't play because of a bruised thumb on his left hand. Despite missing twenty-one total free throws the Rockets played great defense in the second half and limited the Spurs, normally the best three-point shooting team in the NBA, to only 26 % shooting from downtown (6-for-23).

Dwight Howard went scoreless in the first quarter but he led the Rockets with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Terrence Jones added 21 points and 9 rebounds. The Rockets play at Dallas tonight and James Harden will be a game-time decision. The Rockets are now 30-17 on the season and 3-0 against the Spurs. Hopefully the Rockets can continue to play hard and some healthy bodies will eventually come back. We're still without both of our backup centers Omer Asik and Greg Smith. So that depth in the front court is still lacking but give credit to head coach Kevin McHale for making it work with the players he has.

Another great win for the Rockets last night. They defeated the Dallas Mavericks by a score of 117-115. It was the first time since 2009 that the Rockets had won a game at Dallas. James Harden missed his second straight game with a bruised thumb on his shooting hand. Ironically the Rockets are 6-2 this season when their best player doesn't play.

Chandler Parsons carried the team with 26 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 1 steal. Dwight Howard added 21 points despite a season low 5 rebounds. Most importantly for Dwight Howard he made 9-of-11 free throws late in the game when the Mavericks tried to use a Hack-A-Howard strategy. Needless to say the Rockets would have lost this game if Dwight hadn't made most of them.

Donatas Motiejunas came up big off the bench with a career high 13 rebounds and 11 points. Jeremy Lin only scored 18 points but it came off an efficient 8-for-14 shooting effort. He also added 7 assists and he's been playing better defense lately. Superstar and future hall of famer Dirk Nowitzki had a monster game for Dallas producing 38 points and 17 rebounds but thankfully it came in a losing effort.

The 31-17 Rockets, currently in the 5th seed of the Western Conference playoff race, have now won two games in a row.
Their next game is on Saturday Night at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers. They'll have a much needed two days off to rest.

The 32-17 Rockets had no trouble defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 106-92 for their third win in a row. Jeremy Lin produced the first triple-double of his career coming off the bench: 15 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds. He also added 2 steals and 1 block. James Harden scored a game high 28 points on 10-for-17 shooting, as he returned from his minor thumb injury, while Dwight Howard added 26 points on an impressive 10-for-12 shooting (6-of-8 at the free throw line). It was the first time in a while that the two best players on the Rockets led the team in scoring during the same game.

Patrick Beverley didn't score any points but he pulled down 10 rebounds which is amazing considering the fact that the two point guards combined for twenty-one total rebounds in that game. Terrence Jones (7) and Dwight Howard (6) both had an off night rebounding wise but it didn't seem to matter. The Rockets have three days off before they host the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday Night. It's going to be a great game because the Phoenix Suns are a playoff contender led by amazing point guard Goran Dragic, who used to play with the Rockets a few years ago, and he should have been named an all-star this season.

The Rockets defeated the Suns 122-108 and improved their good home record to 21-7 on the season. With four wins in a row the Rockets seem to be playing better basketball than they were earlier in the season. At 33-17 they are a season high sixteen games over .500, and are certainly within reach for a top four seed in the playoffs and home court advantage in the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs.

Dwight Howard dominated with a game high 34 points and 14 rebounds. He was very active on both ends of the court and also picked up three steals and two blocks. Even at the free throw line he's been getting it done during this winning streak. 12-for-18 last night, 6-for-8 and 9-for-11 the previous two games. The Hack-A-Howard strategy is no longer working for the opponents. James Harden chipped in with 23 points and was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line. Both Dwight Howard and James Harden draw a lot of fouls per game so if they are making their free throws the Rockets are difficult to beat.

Backup center Omer Asik, who's been out over two months with a nagging thigh bruise that kept swelling up on him since December 2, is returning to contact drills and five-on-five practice today. If things go well he'll be cleared to return for some game action in seven to ten days. This is certainly good news for a Rockets team which hasn't had much depth in the front court. In the games Dwight Howard has gotten into early foul trouble they have struggled in.

The Rockets seek five wins in a row on Saturday Night as they travel to play the Milwaukee Bucks. Two more off days to rest until then.

The Rockets just won their 5th game in a row with a 101-95 win at Milwaukee. Their season record improves to 34-17 and their road record is now 13-10. Houston is only two games behind the 36-15 Trail Blazers for the 3rd seed and three games behind the 37-14 Spurs for the 2nd seed in the Western Conference playoff race. All the Rockets have to do is tie either team because they own the tiebreakers against both the Trail Blazers (2-1 against) and Spurs (3-0 against).

Dwight Howard had a game high 27 points and 13 rebounds against the Bucks. He also added 5 assists, 2 blocks and a steal in 37 minutes played. Backup center Omer Asik made his return after missing over two months due to injury, and he played 10 minutes with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. He also set several great picks that allowed Jeremy Lin to hit some wide open jumpers. Jeremy Lin scored 18 points on an efficient 8-for-15 shooting off the bench. James Harden scored 22 points tonight and played some solid defense which included four steals.

The Rockets next game is Monday Night at Minnesota. Hopefully they can win their sixth game in a row.

The Houston Rockets keep on rolling with a 107-89 win at Minnesota against the Timberwolves. It was the Rockets' sixth win in a row and Dwight Howard carried the team on his back with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks. With a 35-17 record the Rockets move to within one game of the Portland Trail Blazers for the 3rd seed in the Western Conference Playoff race. Backup center Omer Asik logged another 10 minutes in his second game back after missing over two months with a thigh and knee injury. He was very productive with a rim shaking slam dunk while adding six rebounds. As he continues to play his way back into shape it's obvious he's a huge addition to our bench.

Everything seems to be coming together for a red-hot Rockets team. They'll try to win seven games in a row as they host point guard John Wall and the Washington Wizards at the Toyota Center. The game tips off at 8:05 PM Eastern tonight. It would be nice to see the Houston Rockets enter the NBA all-star weekend as the hottest team in the league. After tonight's game they will not play again until next Wednesday Night at Staples Center against the Lakers.

Seven wins in a row for the Houston Rockets as they edged out the Wizards by a score of 113-112. With a 36-17 record the Rockets have moved into the 3rd seed in the Western Conference playoff race. James Harden was sensational as always: 35 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and scored the game-winning basket with 0.07 tenths of a second left in the game. Dwight Howard added 24 points, 16 rebounds and 3 blocks. Chandler Parsons also played a great all-around game by notching 18 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists.

Next game isn't until Wednesday Night at Staples Center against the Lakers. 10:30 PM Eastern on ESPN.
Going for eight wins in a row at that time. I don't like the all-star weekend because of the long break.
I'm feeling very excited about the Rockets right now, but the Texans and Astros haven't won in forever.

The Rockets got off to a decent start during their tough five-game road trip following the all-star break. While they defeated the Lakers 134-108 on Wednesday Night they suffered a tough 102-99 loss in overtime against the Warriors on Thursday Night. It was a fun eight-game winning streak while it lasted.

I was impressed that they had some chances to pull that game out against a good Warriors team on the road last night, but they just didn't shoot the ball as well as they normally do. I have to give credit to Jermaine O'Neal of the Warriors. He may be old with a lot of mileage on his body (35 with 17 years of NBA experience), but he was playing great defense and blocking shots like he used to do in his younger days when he was a six-time all star from 2002 to 2007.

The Rockets didn't make any big moves before yesterday's trading deadline: No Rajon Rondo acquisition involving Chandler Parsons.
Daryl Morey made one under-the-radar move by trading PG Aaron Brooks to the Denver Nuggets for 23-year-old SF Jordan Hamilton.

Houston has a couple of off days before they travel to Phoenix, Arizona to play the Suns on Sunday Night.
I'm hoping the Rockets can start a new winning streak and continue to strive for that third seed in the West.

Right now I'm feeling like the Houston Rockets have a lot of work to do. Back to the drawing board and we'll see what happens on Sunday Night.
