The PvP Javazon guide by CraZeeY and eacb

Hi and welcome to The PvP Javazon guide, most of you already know the basics when it comes to building Javazons but have you ever thought about taking it one step further? No? Then you’ve come to the right place. In this guide we will give you several options for equipment for whatever floats your boat but still give you pretty much the same big picture. We will give you the basic knowledge to understand and decide what’s best for you while still following our guidelines. We are hoping that you will appreciate the work behind this guide and most of all, enjoy playing Your Javazon!

3. FAQ’s

What are the IAS breakpoints and which weapon have I to choose?
IAS needed to achieve the best attack frames is depending on which weapon you’re using, aim for a -10 WSM weapon.
Below you will find a table showing which weapons require what IAS to hit 7 FPA with CS and 9 FPA LF

What are the FCR and FHR breakpoints?
FCR; aim for 48% (CraZeeY’s choice) or 68% (eacb’s choice) with possibility to upgrade one frame more versus some opponents (68% for CraZeeY and 99% for eacb).
FHR; The FHR in this build is not emphasized as it might be in other builds and this is due to Amazons having passive dodge skills. Without FHR you will gain somewhere around 500-1000 more Life than you normally would. Sometimes you will need to use the 52% BP, for example versus Necromancers.

How is the Charged Strike damage calculated?

Formula
    Maximum lightning damage (with lvl > 28) = (28 x skill lvl) – 278 = A
Bonus from synergies (+% lightning damage) = 10 x (power strike baselvl + lightning bolt baselvl + lightning strike baselvl + lightning fury baselvl ) = B
Bonus from equipment (for example griffon) = +% from equipment = C
    Total lightning damage on screen = A x (1+B/100) x (1+C/100)
Example
eacb has +29 java skills (counting inventory and +1 from cta), 20 points in charged strike and 20 points in all synergies:
    A = [28x(20+29)]-278 = 1094
    B = 10x(20+20+20+20) = 800%
    C = 0
    Total lightning damage = 1094 x (1+800/100) x (1+0/100) = 9846

If now, eacb uses a Griffon RBF (+20%) and another RBF in monarch (+5%), he has 1 point less from helm (Griffon instead of diadem with +2 Ama skills) but my damage is:
    A = [28x(20+28)]-278 = 1066
    B = 10x(20+20+20+20) = 800%
    C = 20+5 = 25%
    Total lightning damage = 1066 x (1+800/100) x (1+25/100) = 11992
How does KB work?
Target knocked back from the attacker and put into hit recovery; it is a must on a Javazon in order to interrupt attacks and stun opponents. Targets can be knocked back a distance of up to three sub-tiles when unobstructed, but occasionally they will only be knocked back one or two (or even just put into hit recovery without moving). This distance cannot be increased.
Item Knockback is applied by successful melee and ranged attacks. Acquiring Knockback from more than one item is normally redundant, since it is checked only once per successful attack, and the chance is fixed by the target, by the target size. For information:
    - Players are medium targets; 50% chance to KB
    - Example of small targets (100% chance to KB); Shadow master and Shadow warrior
    - Example of medium targets (50% chance to KB); Pets
    - Example of large targets (25% chance to KB); Grizzly
    - Example of immune targets (0% chance to KB); Necro’s golems, Oak, Baal, Diablo, …
How do we Str Bug our Javazon?

Formula
Str requirements of the item > visible Str + the Str given from the item. For example, we want to Str Bug the Enigma on our Javazon who’s at Level 99. Lowest Str requirements will be:
20 (base Str on Amazon) + 74 (Str bonus from Enigma) = 94 Str
The minimum required Str requirement for your armor base has to be 94 Str.
So you have to find on your stuff and inventory a minimum of 95-20=75 Str. According you are using annihilus 20stats and torch 20stats, you need 75-40=35 Str from your stuff to be full str bugged.

Remember that when you pick up your gear after dying you will have to *flash the items which gives you Str.
    * means picking up the item giving said attribute and putting it back into its slot.

    CraZeeY has; 20 base + 20 anni + 20 torch + 22 ring + 15 bug belt + 15 gloves = 112 Str > 94 Str; enough to use a Wire Fleece Enigma.
    Eacb has; 20 base + 20 anni + 20 torch + 22 ring + 17 boots = 99 Str > 94 Str; enough to use a Scarab Husk Enigma.

Just remember it for your armor choice; Str req must be > 94 Str and Armor choosen must have 0 Speed penality (you have the list of all armors available in this section just after).
Which type of armor and shield do I have to choose?
In order to maximize your Str bug (previous comment) and have the highest amount of FRW possible, aim for shield and armor with 0 speed penalty. All types are listed here:

How much Dext do I have to stat to obtain max block?

Formula
    Dexterity needed for max block (75%) = [(150 x clvl) / blocking] + 15
Using Stormshield (72% blocking)
    At level 99; Dext needed for MB = [(150x99)/72]+15 = 222
Do I have to skill Critical Strike and Penetrate?
No, we tried a setup with physical damage, with a lot of Open Wounds and Critical Strike with high ED Ethereal Repl javelins, but the fact it is that the Javazon is an elemental character and if you wish to do decent physical damage you will have to max your stash with this EQ switch which makes you lose flexibility versus other characters. When someone tries to absorb you just simply brb with another character and slap them silly.
This is the reason why we decided to max the synergies instead to put skill points in Critical Strike and Penetrate.
4. Stats distribution
Strength; basically, enough to wear gear (normally 156 Str needed for Monarchs). Try to put 0 with stuff and Str from Enigma at high level (74 Str at Level 99). Read about Str Bug in section 3 (FAQ’s).
Dexterity; enough to get max block with Stormshield.
    Vitality; all remaining points.
Energy; none here, no need to explain more.

5. Skills distribution

Notes
Skill tree is completed at level 99.
Valkyrie; we like it since it’s a nice meat shield versus a lot of opponents. You will gain certain advantage versus, for example, v/t's, because they might foh/jumo the Valkyrie instead of you making it less difficult to hit him. It’s a nice meat shield versus the slow from the Necromancers Clay Golem.
Why no point in Critical Strike and Penetrate? Explanation in section 3.
6. Gear, inventory and stash

Below we will be listing the possible items one should use on their Javazon.
To see how to use and combine this stuff, you can go at sections 7 and 8 with CraZeeY’s setups and eacb’s setups. Just remember that in all cases you want to keep the build objectives listed in section 2.

Helm
    Griffon’s eye
The +1 skill (bonus Life from bo) with +15% is a great source of damage, combined with the -20% to Enemy Lightning Resistance. The +25% FCR helps you to reach the FCR breakpoints needed. Depending on setups you can socket it with 5/5 light RBF, 15 IAS/15@ or 15 IAS/30 Cold Res.

Rare diadem with +2 Ama +20% FCR +30% FRW 2 OS
Socketed with 2 x 15 IAS/15 @ jewels; +2 Ama skills is a nice source of lighting damage. The +20% FCR helps you to reach the FCR breakpoints needed. The +30% FRW is a really nice source of FRW combined with other pieces of equipment (105 FRW with main setup, 135 FRW when using Titan’s). You have to socket it with 2 x 15 IAS/15 @ to maintain build objectives when you use Stormshield or Spirit.
Optimal stats; +2 Ama +20% FCR +30% FRW +60 Life with resistances or mana as adds.
Amulet
    Highlord’s Wrath
The +1 skill to boost Life from bo and and also boost damage. The +20% IAS help you reach the IAS breakpoint with some setups.

Crafted amulet +2 Ama 18+% FCR with Dext and Life
Your main amulet; + skills for damage – 18+% FCR to reach the FCR breakpoints (48% or 68%) – Dexterity to obtain max block – life is a great add.
Optimal stats; +2 Ama +20% FCR +20 Dext +60 Life

Crafted amulet +2 Ama 19+% FCR with Life and resistances
Your other amulet when max block is not needed (to play with JMOC or Spirit); skills for damage – 19+% FCR to reach the FCR breakpoints (19% FCR so you can reach the 99% FCR breakpoint versus some opponents) – resistances because you don’t need max block with JMOC or Spirit, it’s a very useful add you can have on this amulet – life is also great add.
    Optimal stats; +2 Ama +20% FCR +60 Life +20 @
Armor
    Enigma
The only armor for a Javazon;+2 skills (boost life and damage) – +45% FRW (to reach 105 or 135frw with setups) - +1 Teleport for mobility and versatility – 74 Str at Level 99 (0.75 str per Level) – +5% maximum Life – +8% DR.
Note; to be able to Str bug Enigma at Level 99 the minimum Str requirement of the armor base has to be higher than 94 Str, and choose an armor’s type with 0 speed penality; read section 3 (FAQ’s) for more informations about Str Bug and types of armors.
Weapon
    Javelins 6/40
These javelins give you the best lightning damage (+6 java skills) and the 40% IAS is needed to maintain the IAS breakpoints and cover the 10% slow from opponent. Maiden, Ceremonial or Matriarchal doesn’t matter, it’s all about personal preference.

Javelins +4 Javelin skills or +2 Ama skills 2+ Javelin skills/40 IAS/Replenish Quantity
Less damage than 6/40 but great because of the Replenish Quantity, this add is great in TvT’s and versus elemental Druids.

    Ethereal upgraded Titan’s Revenge
Versus some opponents the FRW from Titan’s is great because just like the FRW from Enigma, you’re able to bug it. Combine with a JMOC 60IAS/60@ and other parts of equipment to have 95% (or 105% if slow) IAS.
These javelins are also great when using Thundergod's Vigor, to get those extra attributes. Always keep these babies handy

    Call To Arms
Obviously for your +1 skill and boost Life from bo.
Shield
    Stormshield
Your main shield; 35% DR – 60 cold Res and 25 lightning Res base – Great blocking: Best shield to use when you need to obtain max block. Socket with a 15ias/15@ to keep build objectives.

    JMOC
When you don’t need max block or DR this is the shield to use with the best +Life you can get (+41-60 Life). You have multiple choices when it comes to sockets, CraZeeY uses four differents. One with 4x 15 IAS/15 @, one with 3x5/5 lightning RBF and 1x 15 IAS/15 @, 4x 15 IAS 30 cold Res and one with 4x 15 IAS 30 lightning Res. Keep in mind that you always have to reach the breakpoints listed in the build objectives. Why not JMOD? Our max block shield is Stormshield, less Dexterity to stat to obtain MB so more Life at the end and 35% DR. When you need MB; Stormshield > JMOD and when you don’t need MB; JMOC > JMOD. Quite self-explanatory

    Spirit Monarch
    Three reasons:
    1. to boost bo with CTA of course
    2. versus some opponents (Necromancers for example) you could need the 52% FHR breakpoint
    3. great FCR add which makes it easier to hit certain breakpoints (only way to hit the 99fcr bp)
Ring 1
    Rare or crafted FCR ring
Needed for the FCR breakpoints. Aim to find one with Str, so you avoid having to stat Str – Dext, to easier obtain max block – Life is a great add – Resistances or Mana are great adds.
Optimal; it depends on the rest of your equipment and which Enigma base you want to use. You have several options for your ring:

    10 FCR 5 Str 15 Dext 60 Life 11@ res or 90 Mana (crafted)
    10 FCR 2X Str 15 Dext 20 Life 11@
    10 FCR 2x Str 60 Life 90 Mana
Ring 2
    Raven Frost
Cannot be frozen is a must versus some opponents. This ring also has a great Dexterity add.
    Optimal; +20 Dext

    Rare or crafted FCR ring
Only if you want to have the 99% FCR setup in stash.
Remember to not rely on the stat points on this ring as you will have to be able to keep one ring slot open so you can use the other rings as well. Focus on Life, Mana and resistances on this ring.

Absorb rings; Dwarf Star and Wisp Projector
Great rings if you’re having trouble with lightning or fire characters. Wisp also gives a great Oak add so you can cast Oak Sage which gives a great Life bonus.

    Nature’s Peace
The best ring to use versus Hammerdins and Necromancers.
Belt
    Arachnid Mesh
+1 skill to boost life and damage – +20% FCR to reach the FCR breakpoints – slows target by 10% – + 5% Mana.

    Bug belt or Nosferatu’s Coil
Depending on your realm but if you can afford a permanent bug belt it is the overall best belt for a Javazon; +1skill +10% IAS 10% slow +15 Str +25 Dext 20 @ 20 DR Piercing Attack, self-explanatory.
If bug belt is not available on you realm, Nosferatu’s Coil is also a great choice. Other people may have not thought about this belt but it’s great to use when you need an extra source of IAS.

    Thundergod’s Vigor
You use this for the obvious reasons; absorb.

    Rare tri res belt
A belt like this is great if you can’t afford BB or if it is not available on your realm, it gives a sweet Str bonus and the resistances are great as well!
Boots
1.08 boots; Stormtracks or Bitter spur for example
These two boots are great for this build; you play one of these, depending on your other equipment; +30% FRW high Dext and resistances. Stormtracks doesn’t have fire res like Bitter spur does but a great Str boost to wear all equipment without stat any point in Str. Of course you can use other Pre-lod boots than these, depending on your realm. If you can’t afford boots like this check below.

Rare +30% FRW Dext tri Res boots
If you can’t find 1.08 boots, this is the best option.
Note that of course you can use other boots like Waterwalks, but it might prove to be difficult achieving max Res on a Javazon and boots are a great source for this.
Optimal stats; +30% FRW 9 Dext +40 lightning Res +40 fire Res +40 Cold Res
Gloves
    Crafted gloves
These are a must; +2 Javelin skills for damage – +20% IAS to achieve the IAS breakpoints – KB! Nice adds on them are Dext, Str or resistances, depending on the rest of your equipment.
Optimal Stats; +2 Javelin skills +20% IAS Knockback +15 Dext with +15 Str or high single res (depending on what is missing in your build)

Cleglaw’s Pincers (note; CraZeeY does not agree)
eacb uses them sometimes to bm versus some opponents; Javazon or camping trapper; the 25% slow from these gloves and the 10% slow from arachnid or bug belt gives you a better chance versus them.
Inventory

Optimal stats
    Amazon torch 20/20/x
    Annihilus 20/20/x
    9x +45 Life Java skillers
    10x +20 Life 5@ res small charms

    Stats with the listed setups

With the gear listed above CraZeeY reaches 4.4-4.7k hp without oak and 5.7-6k with. 9.3-13k dmg.

The link below shows eacb two main setups, items and character stats included.

    eacb's 2 main setups

Why no FHR? Read section 3 and FAQ’s

7. Dueling strategies and more

In this section, we will talk about the two common methods for a javazon; chain locking and legit far cast.
We will also try to give you the basics, but as all of you know, it's better to find your own style by actually dueling. Some people might think our ways are stupid and that might be because it doesn't fit their style, keep this in mind. Take this section as the basics and if you need more information about a specific match up, feel free to ask here or via pm. We will neither give advice on hot keys as they're about personal preference.

Chain locking

Darken99@jsp had already explained this common method in his Javazon guide. Since it is well explained, we prefer to quote him:

Quote (darken99 @ Dec 16 2011 09:13pm)
Chain locking - attacking with Charge Strike so you don’t lose name lock when teleporting.
This is important and will take some practice to get good at it.
Step 1 - Hold down shift and name lock your opponent with right click charge strike (C) or light fury (Z).  *Note that if you are throwing light fury and hitting your opponent, it may put them into block lock making it so they are unable to attack you while switch to charge strike.
Step 2 – Move the cursor over your feet.
Step 3 – While still holding shift switch to teleport on right click (X) and quickly back to right click charge strike (C).

Left click Chain lock Training Video (different then above right click chain lock)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNxsJvHBHc

This will make it much easier to hit characters that run or teleport often.

Legit Far Cast (FC)

We personally don't like the term "legit FC" but because of this being a guide for a PvP Javazon we would like to cover each aspect and sad as it is, Far Cast is one of them. Legit FC works like this:

Quote (Ziecheik @ Nov 23 2008 10:56pm)
Namelock someone with cs (or anything really, just have a namelock), then switch to a throw skill (lf/lb/throw all work) and quickly switch back to cs within the opening animation of throw. If you do this correctly you should fc.
Its useful to have it on hotkeys close to one another like q/w or a/s or w/d, whatever works comfortably for you. Also do not just smash q/w/q/w/q/w this will not work well, you need to switch to cs within the opening animation of throw so its more like q/w/pause/q/w/pauce/q/w/pause etc.

To note: you will not see the fc on your screen, only your opponent will see the cs bolts, you will not. However as you see the opponent's life drop quickly you will know if you fc'd correctly or not.

here is a little demo I recorded after someone accused me of illegitimate fc: http://s85.photobucket.com/albums/k43/w1zAd3pt/d2vids/?action=view&current=fctest.flv
and a duel in which I use fc: http://s85.photobucket.com/albums/k43/w1zAd3pt/d2vids/?action=view&current=feintcinork2.flv
(please note to all elitists and haters: I recorded these videos my second day on cs zon and was rather bad at legit fc at the time, yes it can be done a lot better, these videos are just for didactic purposes)
Another thing to note is in the videos I use right click fc, as I played my cs zon more I found using leftclick fc to be a lot better because it also gives the option of leftclick chainlocking teleport if you do not want to fc. legit fc can be done both left and right click, I recommend leftclick after playing my zon more.

Also I recommend learning to telestomp with cs over trying to legit fc, its just more effective to win most duels, although its great to know how to legit fc as well.

Keep in mind that you can also “legit FC” if you skill bug throw and CS, however, we will not go into detail about that.

Dueling strategies

Amazon
    Javazon
Use the equipment versus light, being Thundergod's Vigor, Titan's Revenge, JMOC +60% IAS/+120% light Res or +60% @. Use Lightning Fury or Lightning Bolt to get your opponent in a dodge lock, always do this before getting too close. When you’ve put your opponent in a dodge lock proceed to jump and CS them.
Want to bm? Switch crafted gloves with Ceglaw for 25% slow additional and crafted amulet with hl; just insane slow, no chance for her.
Want to bm again? Use more absorb.

    Bowazon
Keep your setup with DR and Stormshield (and your 10% slow from belt); chain locking and CS her … even with a hard desynch it is normally an easy match.
Assassin
    Trapper
The Assassin is one of the most feared opponents while on a Javazon. Whatever you want to do you will not beat an equally skilled Assassin.
Use 68/99% FCR, 52% FHR and Raven Frost. You will have to play semi-defensive. Do not jump into the traps instantly because you will get dodge locked and eventually killed. Try to get out of her traps and only jump her if there’s no trap around. Very effective use of Lightning Fury, try to get the Assassin to block the furies (if c/c Assassin) and when she does you jump her and CS. Hope for the best.

    Ghost and hybrid
Keep your setup DR and Stormshield , resistances should not be a problem and adapt the same strategy as versus trapper. As said before, you will not beat a decent sin on Java.
Necromancer
    Bone
    eacb’s way
A good boner can be really tricky and this Clay Golem is really insane with his slow. Stay away with LF and try to avoid his attacks. When you have a window, chain lock and CS. Your Valkyrie meat shield is really useful in this match.
If he is really hard to catch, you can go with a 99% FCR and 52% FHR breakpoint using Spirit Monarch and a second FCR ring.
Another option we like is to play a second meat shield; Oak from Nature’s Peace ring (68% FCR and 2 meat shields).
    CraZeeY’s way
As eacb mentioned this can be quite a tricky match up, however, not impossible.
Use 68% FCR, 52% and Oak Sage. Be very offensive; never let the Necromancer out of your sight. Recast Valkyrie as often as possible but don't be too close to your opponent while doing this because of the casting delay, always keep your Oak Sage up as well. Try to use Lightning Fury to get rid of the Necromancers Clay Golem and Oak Sage. When successfully dispatched you have to jump the Necro, use Lightning Fury or CS to keep the name lock. When you have a window jump and CS. Beware of the Clay Golem as the slow from the golem will surely be your demise.

    Poison nova
Chain lock him fast and CS. Normally this match up isn’t too difficult but you have to be aggressive since the poison resistance is one of the hardest to reach on a Javazon.
Barbarian
    All Barbarians
Keep your DR setup. Normally you can tank the most of barbs with your max block, your DR and your passive skills. Begin to LF him to slow (from belt), if he is aggressive just CS him when he come close to you, if he starts to run chain lock him and CS. Only the triangle WW could give you some difficulties: just walk (and don’t run) and use CS. Sometimes it might be a good idea to get out of the barbs ww's due to dodge lock. If you notice that you're not making any damage you should get the heck out of there.
Sorceress
    All Sorceresses
Go for your resistance setup; JMOC – Griffon or rare diadem – craft amu with res.
Basically; chain lock them and CS. All es sorcs will be quite easily. Vita sorc with stacked res aren't too difficult either.
Want to bm? Use your absorb.
Druid
    Elemental windy
Keep your DR. Kill the zoo first with LF and when he goes to recast, chain lock him and CS. When he jumps you try to run south and teleport away from his locks. After you’ve gotten out of the name locks rinse - repeat

    Fury
Keep your DR. Run, LF to slow him and KB to interrupt. Chain lock him and finish the job with CS.
Paladin
    Smiter and charger
Keep your DR setup. What is hard with him is the desynch. Try to LF him, use run and teleport, touch him and slow him with your belt. Continue to LF and switch to CS when you are close. Move and continue. If he starts to run away, chain lock him and CS.
Note; this is one of the most difficult matchups, do not underestimate the smiters, WSG if they catch you and teleport away then jump ‘em.

    Hammer
    eacb’s way
Use the damage setup (JMOC with RBF, 6/40, Arachnids Mesh and Griffon RBF). LF him to kill the oak and chain lock with CS. I prefer to play aggressive versus hammer, and remember that you have your Valkyrie which gives you a nice advantage when you are on him. If it is not enough, use Oak from Nature’s Peace.
    CraZeeY’s way
Use the damage setup (JMOC with RBF, 6/40, Bug belt and Griffon +15% IAS/+15% @). Be defensive, when the hammerdin jumps you try to get in to his blind spot, if not successful, run south and fury him to kill his Oak. If he teleports away to recast Oak or something like that try to name lock him, jump and CS.
Note; Always keep your Oak up, without it you will not be able to tank many hammers. If the hammer uses Thundergod’s Vigor they will prove to be difficult unless they have low light resistances.

    Foher
Basically the same method as versus Javazons but without the cleglaw option.
