Yeah it's kept pretty much under wraps at the moment, no word on what the skin condition is, or what treatments he has/is undergone/undergoing.

Hoping to hear some more about it, im not a conspiracy theorist or anything like that, but it is oddly coincidental that this news breaks just a couple days after the cap is announced, and its revealed the Hawks are once again in cap hell....

Well yeah lmao, thats what i mean. I hate the LTIRetire loophole... If you sign a shit contract , like a 12 year contract to a 30 year old player, then even if something happens you can't just LTIRetire him and get your cap relief. its stupid... You should be stuck with his cap hit, or a cap recapture even if he is stuck on LTIR. It's your fault for signing him to a ridiculous contract at an already declining age. lol. I know that wont happen, because then what is the point of LTIR at all, but i think the loophole just sucks.

Gotta 100% disagree with this.
You think the wings should be eating franzens contract against the salary cap because he sustained career ending concussions?
They still have to pay him it just doesn't count against the cap. So it's on the teams financial books and hurts them internally. It just doesn't count against the cap which helps teams remain competitive which is good the league and good for you as a fan.
Competitive teams mean more fanhood means higher salary cap thus improving the NHL brand.

players don't begin season on LTIR, so their cap hit still gets counted on opening day

Well no, because he has a life threating condition, with his concussion issues, and his contract wasnt absolutey ridiculous as is the situation here signing a 30 year-old to a 12 year deal.
But yes i get what you are saying, i was only looking at it from a cap perspective, not a financial or "fandom" perspective.

/e And i actually stand corrected, his contract was fucking outrageous. LOL! So i guess nevermind!

First 9

From the Colorado Avalanche, goaltender Calvin Pickard.
From the Vancouver Canucks, defenseman Luca Sbisa.
From the Arizona Coyotes, forward Teemu Pulkkinen.
From the New Jersey Devils, defenseman Jon Merrill.
From the Buffalo Sabres, forward William Carrier. Vegas also acquired a sixth round pick from Buffalo in exchange for agreeing not to select two other unnamed players they would have liked from the Sabres.
From the Dallas Stars -- owner Bill Foley went off script and accidentally announced this one early, lol -- forward Cody Eakin.
From the Detroit Red Wings, forward Tomas Nosek.
From the Florida Panthers, forward Jonathan Marchessault. Vegas also acquired forward Reilly Smith and a 2018 fourth round pick from the Panthers.
From the Los Angeles Kings, defenseman Brayden McNabb.
