I've got my dad's really old hand-me-down Lynx Black Cat iron set, and I've been playing for about a year now, and I'd like to upgrade to a nicer set now that I'm getting a bit more serious about playing (now playing like 1-2 times a week).

My budget is about $200. I plan on getting like a 2011-2012 used pair. I'm currently talking to someone on c-list with a burner 2.0 graphite set for $200. Should I take that, or is there a better set out there for my money?

Burner 2.0 are very forgiving, there are even older models that are pretty easy to use but not super easy ping eye 2(more expensive) mizuno mp33s, titleist dci line (a little harder irons)

Vouch for the 2.0s...
A graphite set for 200 seems like a steal to me even though they are a few models back. You should also really determine whether you like graphite or steal shafts.

As far as those clubs go, are they factory clubs or did the owner do any modifications to them? If they fit you well and aren't dinged up I would say go for it. I love my TM irons (I have the model just before the 2.0s)

He said he bought them in 2012 at Golf Galaxy, regular length/flex, played with them maybe 40 times, still in great condition, and they have brand new Taylormade grips on them.

Also, considering I'm not a very hard/far hitter, I think graphite would be better for the lighter clubs --> faster swing.

Sweet, a lot of love for these clubs.

To be honest, I definitely suck, I top the ball a lot (definitely my biggest problem), I have some good shots, but I have just as many (or even 2) bad shots for every good one.

I don't want to just jump into a better set of clubs thinking that it's the clubs causing the problem, but now that I'm trying to get out like twice a week, I definitely want to get comfortable with a decent set of clubs that I will be using for the next 5 or so years hopefully so I really do want to upgrade, plus I think it will keep me motivated to keep playing and improving.

Haha it most definitely is, but to be honest I'm making pretty good money with an internship this summer and I don't really have bills to pay (mooching off parents of course haha), so I've got the money. I don't want to buy another set for a while though, which is why I want to make sure I'm getting the right set first haha.

if you can find a set of ping eye 2s to use according with your variant (red dot, black dot etc) test them if you can find a used golf shop or something, i just looked again and they arent that bad priced online if you find you like them and the variant made for you.

those clubs were something else
