I mean... it's not like George W. Bush was considered "a bastion of excellence" or carried a particularly high reputation on the global stage either.

Clinton was busy shoving cigars into his intern's pussy inside of the oral office, George H.W. Bush was the epitome of mediocrity and the late reagan most likely suffered from mental illness while in office.

So in recent decades, most presidents have exhibited embarrassing behavior, Obama is an outlier in that regard and his degree of absence of gaffes and scandals shouldnt be considered the norm.

But shouldn't the President's Office be held in high regard? There was heavy criticism from press & media on all the presidents you named afaik.

Yes. I dont criticize the media or the international community for calling Trump out on embarrassing, unpresidential behavior. What I am calling them out for is blowing every minor fart out of proportion and pretending like even the slightest misstep by trump is the end of the world. What I am calling them out for is reporting on Trump's stances and policy like they are a crime.

thats not up to you to decide

besides your lands interpretation of “high regard” is giving a half-Austrian everything he wants at Munich and a Soviet nutjob free-reign beyond the wall in Berlin.

in the winners circle theres a different standard of excellence

I get what you're saying my dude. I agree that there are things that are being taken out of proportion. However, Trump has made that very easy for media to do. If he ignores the clickbait and addresses the serious stuff only instead of feeding material to all sides he'd be way better off.

I don't think Trump is the worst President in terms of policy (yet, the tax law is getting him on the way there), but in terms of demeanor he ranks up there with the worst of them.

Of course. You'd prefer a polite president with no substance.

That's what will be good for America. /s

PS: The tax bill literally had no downsides.

Lowering income taxes at this time is fine. Lowering corporate taxes is a horrible idea. Return on labor vs return on capital has been skewing over time so much. Governments need to start incentivizing companies to spend and invest in their labor forces.

$1.5 trillion in additional debt is "no downside"?

and I agree again. It's just that I dont care too much about his demeanor as long as the core ideas of his policy are going in the right direction.

Wages only rise when there is a surplus of jobs. None of your silly ideas fix that.

Social Security and Medicare are plagues upon the planet, as the only two real drivers of the debt

I actually agree that Social Security and Medicare are huge drains on our country, the only problem is they are probably the programs with the most points toward moral goodness that have ever been implemented.
