The standard Xbox controller was originally the Xbox controller for all territories except Japan. The standard Xbox controller has been criticized for being bulky compared to other video game controllers (it was awarded "Blunder of the Year" by Game Informer in 2001 and a Guinness World Record for the biggest controller in Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008, as well as being ranked the second worst video game controller ever by IGN editor Craig Harris. The Controller S was released in other territories by popular demand, and eventually replaced the standard controller in the Xbox's retail package, with the larger original controller available as an accessory

All remotes allow basic control of games, along with being able to navigate the dashboard. The remote control allows for controlling portions of the interface of the Xbox 360 via infrared.

    • Using the remote code 21972, you can power on/off the device, as well as press "A" and "B", so you can program your TV remote to control your Xbox as a DVD player.

The HD DVD player also features two extra USB ports on the rear as well as a clip to for attaching the wireless network adapter to. The drive cannot be used to play Xbox or Xbox 360 game titles, and all Xbox 360 games will continue to use DVD-9 media.

The headset features a built-in rechargeable battery, which lasts up to 8 hours, and comes with a charger and an instruction manual. Role-Playing Game
A RPG is "a game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, players have the freedom to improvise; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the game."
    Examples
      • The Last Remnant
      • Star Ocean
      • Fable
First Person Shooting
What light through yonder window breaks? It must be the flash of the double barreled shotgun! First person shooters are characterized by two things. First, you pretty much blow up everything you see. Second, the action takes place in first person. That is, through the eyes of the character who's doing all the shooting. You may even see your hands or weapon at the bottom of the screen. They can be set in fantasy, science fiction, present day `real world' and many other settings.
    Examples
      • Halo
      • Call of Duty
      • Rainbow Six
Third Person Shooting
Similar to FPS, but you view your character in third person and in 3D. On modern third person shooters you can usually do some really kick-butt maneuvers like Jackie Chan style back flips and side rolls.
    Examples
      • Gears of War
      • Hitman
      • Mechassault
Racing
A Racing Game is a genre of video games, either in the first- or third-person perspective, in which the player partakes in a racing competition with any type of land, air, or sea vehicles. They may be based on anything from real-world racing leagues to entirely fantastical settings.
    Examples
      • Need for Speed
      • Forza
      • Burnout
Fighting
A fighting game is a video game genre where the player controls an on-screen character and engages in one-on-one close combat with an opponent. These characters tend to be of equal power and fight matches consisting of several rounds, which take place in an arena.'
    Examples
      • Mortal Kombat
      • Soul Caliber
      • Virtual Fighter
Strategy
A Strategy Game generally simulates some kind of scenario. The scenario can be peaceful, like running a successful city, or not, like illegal drug selling operation or an all-out war strategy game. The types of games usually take a long time to complete and require a lot of brainpower.
    Examples
      • Halo Wars
      • Comand and Conquer 3
      • Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II
Music
Get ready to Rock! Music games are usually compromise of interactive game play where you become a rocking guitarist or an amazing vocalist.
    Examples
      • Rockband
      • Guitar Hero
      • DDR
Kids Games
Kids games are are informal games, most often played by children without adult organization, sometimes even despite the disapproval of adults. They are part of children's street culture. There is a list of children's party games in the article on party games.
    Examples
      • Kung-fu Panda
      • Lego Star Wars
      • Harry Potter
Sports
Sports games involve physical and tactical challenges, and test the player's precision and accuracy. Most sports games attempt to model the athletic characteristics required by that sport, including speed, strength, acceleration, accuracy, and so on. As with their respective sports, these games take place in a stadium or arena with clear boundaries. Sports games often provide play-by-play and color commentary through the use of recorded audio.
    Examples
      • Madden
      • FIFA Soccer
      • NBA
Halo: The Backbone of the Xbox
"Halo: Combat Evolved was a seminal title in the history of video gaming. The title almost singlehandedly carried the original Xbox platform early on, helping to shape that platform as the FPS gamer's first choice, a trend that continues even today. The Halo franchise has also helped to emphasize the legitimacy of video gaming as a mass market entertainment source, with Halo 3 (at the time) claiming the title of biggest entertainment launch ever and $300 million worth of first week sales – this would later be surpassed by GTA IV's $500 million first week.

Halo would not have had the impact on the industry it did without the excellent design of Halo: Combat Evolved by Bungie. The game introduced several small innovations that have subtlety (and not so subtlety) changed the gaming landscape, affecting not just shooter titles but all games in general.

With the recent revelation of 343 Industries and the Halo anime along with the announcement of Bungie's intended departure from the franchise coming out around a decade after the game's first public reveal, we felt it was a good time to take a look at the way certain features in Halo changed gaming forever."
