Schlemko trade is really weird. Surprised nobody gave up a 4th or even 3rd for him. Solid 3rd-pairing guy everywhere he's been.

And then they get a 2nd for TVR who is young but not a real high chance of being a top-4.

Probably because you lost a decent amount of value when it comes to the player exchange. Even if Strome un-busts his ceiling probably isn't much higher than what Eberle does consistently every year.

I don't know much about strome but he was a #5 overall pick so his ceiling must be close to eberle.
I get the feeling people value eberle by the one year he scored 34, since he's signed his contract he's been mailing it in 9/10 games.

The problem with eberle is one simple problem. Effort. Not just effort in his own end , or in the corner. Effort everywhere on ice. The 1/2 dozen or so games a year he feels like earning his salary his game is complete. The rest of the year he's atrocious in all aspects of his game , don't matter how fast he can skate or how quick his release is when he's on cruise control.
If it was just his def zone coverage or willingness to battle for a lose puck he'd be useful on our pp at least right? Nope our fourth line centre stole his job on the #1 pp.

There's not to many players who manage to turn their game around when the only problem is the amount of try in their game.

I really hope he can, his wjhc performance is still one of my favorites I've watched.

Eberle is a career 62 point / 82 game player, it's just not that one year.

Almost every player that isn't a PPG player (which is like 99% of the league) has consistency issues. I'm okay with a guy that puts up 55+ points like clockwork in an offense-starved league even if he doesn't show up for a game here or there.

How about not showing up for 60 or so games.

He'd be amazing if this was the 80's, 80% of his production is in 7-5 games.

As long as he's getting a point in half of them and 55-60 points overall, I don't care.

Most players in the league just skate up and down the ice and accomplish nothing but look like they're doing something 'cause they're "working hard".

Strome is terrible can't believe anyone would want him

Is that a salary dump by the oilers?

Essentially yes.
Also a continuation of the so called culture change, Eberle was about as low as you can go on the intensity scale. When a 4rth line centre steals your spot on the pp when that's supposed to be the one job you had it's time to go.
