a GPS that could help you get out of the wilderness back to civilization would be a great tool too

Yes if its getting signal and the batteries have juice. There are a few other less precise way to find direction. At noon in the northern hemisphere, the sun is due south, so walking that direction takes you south and walking away would take you north etc. The moss on trees will be thicker and greener because it gets more sun. Also the bark on trees may appear duller and branches point to the sky on the north side of a tree because they don't get as much sun. Not precise like I said but its a lot better to have some knowledge to back up the old gps.

Me starting a fire in the snow with a ferrocerium rod and a knife, using the inner strands of 550 para cord as tinder to light some leaves on fire.

I like those paracord neclaces, I'm about to order a hundred feet or so and make a sling for my rifle, might buy 200ft and make a sling for my Mosin and my AR

A 2 point standard rifle takes about 80-90 of cord, so that sounds about right.
