There was this morel that grew in the yard, but the top of it broke off for some reason. Idk how they grow, but I hope it doesn't die as a result. One grew in the same spot last year. It's surprisingly hard

The spores are in the top so it should reproduce when the conditions are right again. They grow funny here, at night when its raining between like 55-65 degrees. Then it has to have a certain soil type. They seem to like acidic soil like that produced by dying trees. Apples and ash seem to be their favorites around here.

they're good sauteed in butter or oil w/ lemon, salt & pep. you gotta pick up at just the right time though.

fiddleheads and trout is like a classic dinner up here for the outdoorsman

Trout season just opened here too. We have a shitton of ferns here, Ive never bothered with them. Maybe I'll have to broaden my horizons. We have trout with dandelion salad with wild onions and mushrooms.
