Any laptop you purchase, almost every linux distro (all 500 or whatever) will run on it..

if you're getting some arm processor, from some lego toy box or raspberry pi or you stole a street stop light's computer, or hacked a DVR that's the only time you might have to think twice about which distro of linux you want to run on it..

That guy's right though, we should change stop lights, DVRs, disney & dreamworks render stations, postal service & most of the government, tivo, ps3, xbox, all android phones, bing, google, amazon, and www.top500.org/stats/list/34/osfam

should all switch to windows

get a 600$ acer wiith 4gb ram and dual core or better proc

youre set to use linux

i was running a bloated install of debian on a p4 2ghz on 256ram so yea you dont need much.

also you dont need a optical drive lol just install via usb or if you have to get a usb optical.

2570p and 2560p elitebooks look kinda good at spec. But exterior to close to a mac. And i dont like so much the aluminium. The think pads plastic or carbon would be better. And the elite books are kinda expensive a bit to. Want something cheaper.
