Mallorca will be playing away against Mirandés this afternoon.

Well, this is it. 2 games to go, but we will drop today if we lose and Nástic draws/wins or Alcorcón wins; or if we draw and Nástic wins. Both Alcorcón and Nástic have tough games though... Alcorcón will be playing away against UCAM Murcia (also threatened by relegation, but needs just a point to avoid it) and Nástic is playing away against Tenerife (4th placed, wanting to secure promotion playoffs and having lost only one home game this season).

Meanwhile Mallorca will be playing away against Mirandés... a team that is last placed and already relegated. An absolute must win and the type of game that if you can't win then you really don't deserve to stay up. It would be ideal if we won by some goals in order to gain the goal difference advantage over Nástic (with whom we have a draw in h2h results).

Yes, 2-2, such bs. What a disgraceful season.

Like I said 3 months ago, sacking the manager wasn't going to help, and signing a failure of a coach like Sergi Barjuán as a replacement would only make things worse. He sent us deep into the relegation zone and now we're down even with one game to go. Today he went with a 5-5-0 formation, with 2 DMs and 3 CAMs... too scared of mighty Mirandés it seems... we conceded a goal 3 minutes in and then it took 3 subs to finally turn the lineup into an offensive one.

This has really been an unbelievable season. We've played really well most of the time... easily the best football we've produced in years... but players just can't keep their head cool, and they either blow their chances or make a stupid defensive mistake at the end. Numancia is the only team in the whole bottom half of the table that has lost less games than us, the problem is we don't win. This could have been avoided if the club had signed a striker during the winter, but nope, the board didn't want to spend more money and they didn't want to bring a player on loan because they wanted to give "our" players a chance.

So, 36 seasons later, we're back in the horrible gutter that is the 3rd level, Segunda B. 80 teams and only 4 promote after a tough playoff. It can be a nightmare to get back up, but lets see how it goes. Several clubs that like Mallorca historically belong in Primera (as in they are among the 20 highest ranked clubs in the all time table) like Las Palmas, Racing, Oviedo, etc have fallen there in the past 2 decades and have been mostly struggling ever since (although Las Palmas is now finally getting its place back). I guess it will depend on what these american owners want to do. They spent 20M€ on buying the club and clearing the debt, I don't know why they let the club sink after spending that amount. Hopefully this at least works as a wakeup call.

I feel really sorry for Mallorca B. They promoted to Segunda B last season, and when everyone thought they were going to quickly relegate back to the 4th level, they performed really well and got a mid table finish. But now, they're going back down because the seniors couldn't keep their place in Segunda...

Would like to see the b-team's manager, club icon Pepe Gálvez, taking over the first squad. He knows the young talents, he knows the 3rd level and he has proven to be worthy of an opportunity.

80 teams??!!

What on earth.

Seems like you had the type of season OHL had when they got relegated, playing great football but not having the luck.

4 groups of 20. There's a regular season of 38 games and then a bit of a complicated playoff system:

The 4 champions play the "championship tournament", where there's a semifinal round and a final round. The 2 finalists promote to Segunda, and the winner of the final is crowned champion of Segunda B.

The 12 teams teams that finfished 2nd-4th play the "promotion tournament". After a first round (where 2nd placed teams face 4th placed teams, and the 3rd placed teams play each other) 6 teams remain and they are joined by the two teams that didn't reach the final of the "championship tournament" for a total of 8 teams. 2 more round are played until 2 teams remain, which will also promote to Segunda along with the 2 finalists of the championship tournament.

It's a bit of a dodgy system since playoffs can throw away a perfect regular season, but at least its set up in a way that being group champion gives you a huge advantage and it guarantees that at least 2 of them will promote. Usually 3/4 group champions end up promoting, so it's still very important to perform well all season and try to win the group.

All that being said, I wish they chaged the football pyramid, so the third level wold consist of 2 groups or 20, so there'd be room for direct promotion and make things more fair.

And btw contratulations to Girona. They will be playing in Primera for the first time in their history after securing promotion last night. They deserved it imo. Despite spending most of their history in the 3rd and 4th levels, ever since they last promoted to Segunda almost a decade ago they've been doing really well and have been very close to promoting on several occasions, but they had always bottled it at the end when it seemed done.

jesus christ zark
you have a serious mountain to climb there, i see now why getting relegated from second level hurts so much

in germany third level is just a normal 18 team league with standard promotion/relegation system ^^

Yeah, in Germany the problem comes when you drop to the 4th tier. Promoting from the regional leagues is a nightmare.

Here the promotions to both the 3rd and 4th tiers are crazy.

Primera: 20 teams, 3 go down.
Segunda: 22 teams, 3 go up, 4 go down.
Segunda B: 80 teams (4 groups of 20), 4 go up, 18 go down.
Tercera: 360 teams (18 groups of 20, with the same playoff system as described for Segunda B), 18 go up and the amount of teams going down depends on each region.  This is madness.

After that it goes to normal. Each of the 18 groups of Tercera is locked to the region of Spain they represent anfd have their own football pyramids, usually with 1-2 groups per level.

I think the system needs an overhaul. There should be a third level with 2 groups, a 4th one with 4, a 5th one with 8 and then the 18 regional leagues starting in the 6th level instead of the 4th one.
