Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports reports Ed Reed turned down a multi-year offer from the Ravens two days before the 2011 season opener.
Reed predictably balked at the proposed average annual salary below the likes of Eric Weddle and Michael Huff. Although Reed has given mixed signals on his training camp intentions and football future, "those who know him best" are confident that he won't be a distraction this season. "Everyone is talking about a holdout," said one of Reed's close family members. "Ed isn't going to hold out. He told me he isn't going to hold out. He speaks his mind about some things, gets some things off his chest, but he's never said he is going to hold out. He'll show up when he has to be there and he'll play out his contract."
