Hi guys.

I'm still fairly new to photography, but i'm understanding more and more each day. This morning I got up bright and early to get a few sunrise shots from a bridge near my place. I'm not too happy with the results, they all seem far too underexposed to me. I would really appreciate any feedback/ advice

Are you taking RAW pictures or JPEG? You should take RAW, so you can edit them with Lightroom. That way you can help the exposure with the shadows so that it's brighter.

However, in this instance, I like how the sky is the only thing properly exposed, and the rest is silhouetted. I think it's very nice, but it'd be nice to see how the pictures would look if the rest was edited.

You need to get some "Gradient" Filters... with these you can correct the fairly bright light in the sky and get a more even / brighter exposure with more detail

You can get Natural Gradient Filters from different Brands.. Hitech....Lee.. Cookin.. etc..

Like the Shots btw. the sky is amazing..

I took RAW and Jpeg for all these shots.. but I havent got lightroom set up or any other raw editing software yet... will have to research this is it hard to work on just the lower sections seperate from the sky?

any value in going for the super cheap knock off ones on ***? especially while i'm still working everything out or are they just not worth the bother?

Well, it has different exposure options for "highlights," "shadows," "whites," and "blacks." So yeah, it'll effect different areas. Lightroom is great for editing RAW images.

Could also look into luminosity masking in photoshop. Plenty of tutorials on youtube.

cookin is usually really cheap.. they do their job, but they will have a purple color cast so you need to color correct quite much..

I would go with the little more expensive ones.. i myself use lee, since for the 14-24 is only one holder you can use.. a friend of mine uses hitech and is quite happy
