Where is a good place to farm in hell in order to progress in inferno? I'm currently in a1 inferno and getting beat pretty bad. I know it is due to my gear. (wizard 12k life, 14k dps)

a4 or ponies

Get 200% MF/GF
Go to Nightmare Act 3 - Choose Quest Kill Azmodan
Do the 2 towers (Cursed, Damned) 2 levels.
Then go kill Azmodan.
You can make 40k+ a run in about 10 mins.
Farm up money to buy some inferno gear

auction house.
a3/4 of hell is a decent place to farm i guess. get your valor stacks and roll the elites. regardless of what you do, essentially you're going after gold instead of items because that's the most efficient way to gear for inferno. if you happen to find gear for yourself in the process that's great too

once you get some gold, like i dunno, 500k+, just troll the AH for your slots. sit there and browse pages until you see the brand new auctions at low prices and hit the buyout button really fast

I have like 370k at the moment but all the gear seems to be 800k+
