I'm sure this post has been here before
But I really think the site needs a way to recycle names.
I've been trying to get the name "Odin" pretty much since I've joined this site.
but heres my problem:

http://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?i=322

made in 2002, made 1 post.. never logged on again.
This is either a multi, or someone who just didn't like the site.
He's not coming back. The name is just collecting dust.
I know i'm not the only one who has had this problem

My idea was in situations like this one, send the user a message.. or an email whatever works
saying that the name is going to be changed, to "userxxxxx1" etc. giving them the opportunity to declare the account not inactive. ( after a certain time period )
If they don't declare it not active, the name will be changed to a random name.
An account such as the one above, would require access to the original email just to log on, so an email + pm seems like it would be pretty effective.

obviously this can't be done in every case, but situations like mine ( and many others ) wheres it is very apparent that the user is never going to use the account again it seems fair.

I would gladly pay real money for this, as would alot of my friends.
Maybe have a "request a name" process or something similar to that. I imagine it would only require 1 moderator to handle this.
I have a feeling this is probably not even going to be taken seriously, but hey figured I would try ya know :P

thanks for reading

Not going to happen. It's been suggested numerous times and turned down.

Because plenty of people with inactive accounts have come back, once D3 comes out in a month, even more so will. It would not be fear to those users that their name got changed because someone bought it while they were away.

I for one support this.

I think a strict set of rules needs to be in place before hand.

I do not feel like we are "Above" the rules or anything like that, but there are several members who donate tons of money and fg to this website. I think we should be given the chance to take a name from someone who does not actively participate on these forums.

I am in the same boat, I wish I could take the name "Bill." It's been inactive since 2003, never a single post made and it hasn't been seen since the day it was created.

I vote a definite yes, if a specific set of rules was in place for this to happen. I don't see why this would hurt. I don't believe there is any legality issues when it comes to this.

of course, it would take some common sense.
I meant for very obvious cases such as mine, where he hasn't logged in in 10 years. I can't say the user won't log on withing the next 10 years. but I imagine it's not that important to him.

I mean, even if there were some way to contact the guy, that would be great. I sent him a pm 3 years ago, and i've been constantly sending pm's since.
Possibly have a message forwarded to his email, in hopes he might see it.

If sooo many people have suggested ideas like mine, why aren't we even considering it?

Voted yes, I am also looking for a name that I will never have, for the reason that the account is banned. ( http://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?i=639085 ) .

Banned account should be removed after a while, allowing people to take their name ( altho they'll have to deal with the said name reputation).

well that one unfortunately will probably never happen, or even be considered.
Not saying you are by any means, but how do we know its not your account to begin with ya know.. and your just trying to get your name back :(
people would definitely try this.

Anyways my idea is to open a "case" kind of, and have it reviewed by a mod or mod team, kinda like they do with scammer accusations.
Those are very rarely 100% positive "hes a scammer" situations. It takes a little thinking.
