What do you mean by no fixed role in 8?

But yeah, I agree that 8 is pretty easy, only the weapons, and Ultemicia's Castle are a challenge.  Ultemicia's Castle is my favorite "last boss area" in any FF.

But in terms of character development, I think that 8 is by far the best.  Thinking about how far Squall comes along in the game just makes me want to play it again lol.

All I meant about no fixed role is aside from their limit breaks, and Rinoa's Angelo, you can junction any and every ability to any and every character; how each and every cast member functions is totally up to you, unlike the earlier 2d Final Fantasies and many the of other Squaresoft releases. I've been watching my friend pour 50-60 hours into VIII and he's just about done with all the sidequests; I can't wait 'til he's at Ultimecia's castle as I agree that it's probably the most wicked end-game dungeon in the franchise.

Yeah that's true about the roles. 7 and 8 seem to be the most "non class based", and they are the most critically acclaimed in the series(ironic). The thing that is interesting about 8 though, is that you can kind of tell what kind of "job" they were trying to make each character though, not only by their limit breaks but also by the weapons they wield. Like Squall is a warrior type, Zell is a monk type, Quistis is a blue mage type, Irvine is a ranger type, Selphie is a black mage/red mage type, Rinoa is kind of a white mage type. It's obviously not as defined as the older games, or like in 9, but I thought it was an interesting take how 8 did it. 7 is like the least traditional FF in that sense lol.

Just curious, I have never played it.. is it worth getting?

For the record my favorite is 8 followed by 10 and then 7.. does it compare to those? how's the battle style also, by the way

Which game system is this version for? I only have final fantasy dissidia 012 on my psp :P and just wondering, is this version just taking turns?

Are you serious or just trolling? Ten seconds of research would let you know what sytem Final Fantays IX is for; what you mean by "is this version just takings turns" is beyond me.

A lot of fans felt that VIII was far too easy, although the monster levels depended on the character levels, even at level 99 the game is a cake walk. Another argument would be that the characters follow no fixed role whatsoever; however those two arguments, being too easy and having no fixed role with any of the cast members, never stopped anyone from riding VII's dick  The storyline is incredible and in any Final Fantasy game that can go a long way. One of my all-time favorites.

eh 10 was my second favorite behind 8(all time favorite) and I thought 10 was much easier actually lol

just the story-line on 8 was the best imo.. plus the battle system and character development were very nice ofc
