This is a guide to the new & improved D2JSP instant messenger – njIRCIM
This is a rather new feature, so we had input from many sources in figuring out the many different aspects of this! This guide was made possible with help from: Archmage, Arsenic_Touch, Austin, Dexterity, Ephipany, Protagonist & RaveTheGo

This guide is composed of three different sections, as identified below.

Part I – Introduction to njIRCIM
Part II – Changing Settings & Notifications
Part III – Publicly Accessible Channels
Part IV – Command List
Part V – Frequently Asked Questions

Part I – Introduction to njIRCIM
njIRCIM – a new custom-created IRC-based instant messenger system created by njaguar. This feature allows you to communicate with d2jsp at large through its immense features such as both public and private (Guild-only) chat channels; it’s great messaging system & the notifications (talked about below).

Accessing njIRCIM
You can access the instant messenger by clicking the Instant Messenger button at the top right of your d2jsp screen, or using this link: http://forums.d2jsp.org/chat.php

njIRCIM for Handheld Devices
We’ve tested many many applications over many devices. For iPhone, we’ve found one that works quite well, although it costs $2. It is called Colloquy. For Android, most IRC/chat applications are able to connect to the IRC server. These apps will also work for both apple and android tablets alike.

External IRC Clients
In the near future, this guide will be updated with information on how to connect VIA external clients, it will either be placed in this section, or linked to a new guide.

Automatically Joining Channels
There is a way you can automatically join channels upon joining the instant messenger, but it requires modification of the address bar. For example, http://forums.d2jsp.org/chat.php?c=d2jsp,hero,donor would automatically join #d2jsp, #donor and #hero upon joining the chat.

Guild Channels with Symbols
If your guild has characters that violate the IRC RFC specification, then your guild chat channel will be renamed to #Guild_(Guildnumber). As an example, the guild chat channel for the guild •.(>^.^)>.• is #Guild_898.

Client Syncrhonization
All clients from which you access d2jsp IRC are synchronized – meaning that you can have multiple browsers open with it, clients, etc all at the same time. Leaving the channel on one causes you to leave the channel on all others. However, messages you send are ONLY seen on the client on which you sent them.

Tab Completion
njIRCIM (web client only) features a great setting called tab completion. In order to quickly type someone’s name out, you can type the first part of their name, and then press tab with the text box still selected. (I.E to type protagonist, type pro and press tab). If two or more users fall under the same text (I.E two users whose name start with pro) it will select the first who joined.

Addressing another user
Upon typing the name of someone and sending it, it will appear in blue to them and them only, although all users will be able to see this. This allows the user to know that you are addressing them specifically should a channel be busy – so that you are able to see what they are saying and respond appropriately.

Instant Messenger Tab
In this guide, there will be discussion of a d2jsp instant messenger tab, when that is referred to; it is noting this tab within the client:

Before posting in General Help, please ensure you read the Frequently Asked Questions at the bottom for quick answers to any questions you may have.
