The longer I have my HE 500s the more content I am with them. I think that they are probably my endgame cans.

Will be upgrading to a better amp later on, but they're amazing even with my current one.

What amp/dac do you currently have?

If you already really like them on the setup you have you may want to reconsider changing that setup

If it aint broke, don't fix it :-D

FiiO 07/09 combo.

Switched to lambskin ZMF Omni pads which are incredible.

Want to mod it to the new HiFiMan head band, though.



Heard so much how they need to be properly amped. Makes me want to at least try out a new amp.

I would get a new amp/dac setup.

The He500's recommend 1w+ output from an amp, Your amp gives out less than that @ 32 ohms, and the 500's are 56ohm iirc?

Planar is pretty power hungry. I use an asgard 2, that has a max output of 1w @ 50ohm. Typically have it 40%~ volume for music typically, and 60%~ For movies/tv.


What price range were you thinking for a new amp/dac?

For sure . Got the combo for $50 when I first got my real pair of headphones (which I consulted with you about, hahaha).

Have been living out of the US for a while now, so not planning the purchase for at least a couple of months. Budget will be about 500 or so when I head back to the US.

Check out the Jouhtahm or w/e its called. I know i butchered the spelling.. But im far too lazy to google it atm. It's made by Schiit, Sells for $499 with the balanced dac (You just need a new cable and your 500's are balanced )
7w output @ 32 ohm lul. Not sure if thats with or without the balanced dac, As that typically doubles the output power.

I have been looking at that, actually.

So annoying to buy anything when you live out of the US, though.

You audio nerds need to find me a new 2.1 system.
and maybe a dac once lee's caves and mails me new headphones.
