windows 8 has yet to be released. its just in the beta stages.

as other ppl said before it's still an beta version.. so probably it doesnt support d2
so if you want to play d2 i should use windows 7 if i was you and w8 for the full version of windows 8

Super helpful advice on these forums....

Diablo 2 LOD WILL work on Winows 8, but when you run the game you will get a CD error. You have to put it into WIndows 98 compatibility mode, also adding the -w flag to run in window mode helps.
You might also need to put the D2VidTst.exe to Windows 98 compatibility mode and run it manually.

My only issue right now is that D2 is not detecting my sound card at all and the sound options are disabled in the menu.
