Guide to Leveling

Leveling - The Normal Way.

This is the normal and most common way to level up at e.g the beginning of ladder resets. (Note that in Ladder Resets, it may be hard to find someone to rush you).
If you prefer to do it like in the old times, or if you cannot find someone to rush you to hell, you might want to consider leveling this way.

Level 1-15 - Level by joining 'Tristram runs'.
Level 15-24 - Level by joining 'Tomb runs'.
Level 25-40 - Level by joining 'Baal runs'.
Level 40 - Kill Baal and switch to Nightmare, find someone to rush you to Act 5.
Level 40-60 - Level by joining 'Baal runs'.
Level 60 - Kill Baal and switch to Hell, find someone to rush you to Act 5.
Level 60-99 - Level by joining 'Baal runs'.

Leveling - The Fastest Way.

This is the fastest and most common way to level up if you have friends that are able to rush you.
If you have friends that are able to rush you to Hell, Act 4, you might want to consider leveling this way.

Level 1 to 60 - Level by joining 'Diablo runs'.
Level 60 - Complete the Quest 'Rite of Passage' in order to do Baal runs.
Level 60-99 - Level by joining 'Baal runs'.

Classic

In order to play Classic, you will have to remove the 'Expansion' mode, since you want to have a 'Classic' character.
In Classic, you don't have fifth Act, which means that you will go to the next difficulty when you have killed Diablo.
In Classic, you don't have runewords. e.g; Your Paladin will have no Enigma (No teleport) and your Sorceress will have no Infinity (Remove immunity).

If you have been 'Classic rushed', you might want want to convert your character to 'Expansion' after you have killed Duriel in Act 2, Hell. Make sure that your character is in Act 3 before converting it, if not a rollback will occur and your character will be in Act 5 nightmare.
This will allow you to get rushed by an 'Expansion' character, which will rush you much easier the last three acts.

How to do it in classic
You will need an enchanter for this and a bo barb if you can, nothing you must have but a bonus.
If you can, get a few gold pieces from the enchanter and buy yourself a bow and some arrows.

Level 1-15 - Level by walking from the waypoint 'Stony Field' and advance.
Level 15-21 - Level by joining 'Tomb runs'.
Level 21-35 - Level by joining 'Cow runs' in Normal difficulty.
Level 35-50 - Level by joining 'Cow runs' in Nightmare difficulty.
Level 50-70 - Level by joining 'Diablo runs' in Nightmare difficulty.
Level 70-99 - Level by joining 'Diablo runs' in Hell difficulty.

Additional Information

(Quest): Rite of Passage

In order to complete the quest, you will have to kill tree ancients named Korlic, Madawc, and Talic.
You will find them in an area called 'Arreat Summit', to get there, you'll have to find your way through The Ancient's Way.
During the quest, you are not allowed to leave the area using a Town Portal, if you do this, the quest will reset back to normal.
In normal you will have to be level 20 in order to do this quest, in nightmare you have to be level 40 and in hell you have to be level 60.
Because of the level restrictions, it will be harder to rush a level 1 character to hell, but it's possible, read more about this at the category '(Glitch): Baal Bug'.
The quest 'Rite of Passage', will grant you a level if you do it when you are level 20, 40 or level 60. (this does not apply when you level the 'Fastest Way'.

(Glitch): Baal Bug

If you have a level 1 character in Act 5 (expansion), you will have to find someone that haven't killed Baal already, aka, done the quest 'Eve of Destruction'.
Once you have found a character that is above level 20 (if normal), or above level 40 (if nightmare), you will need him to complete the quest 'Eve of Destruction'.
In order to complete the quest yourself, you and him/her will need to be in the same party while Baal is killed.
You'll have to to the same in nightmare to get to hell.

Required Waypoints

In order to do 'Tristram runs', you will need the waypoint 'Stony Fields' and you must've done the quest 'The Search For Cain'.
In order to do 'Tomb runs', you will need the waypoint 'Canyon of Magi' and to get there you must've done the quest 'The Summoner'.
In order to do 'Diablo runs', you will need the waypoint 'River of Flame'.
In order to do 'Baal runs', you will need the waypoint 'Worldstone Keep Level 2' and you must've done the quest 'Rite of Passage'.
