I agree, but to be fair benning is just trying to shelter the kids from being exposed defensively and be used much more on the O zone. Green at least used Horvat correctly and some kids more offensively, and had sutter mostly be the defensive forward to rely on. Other than that he had no one else really, and he had to work with Dowd as he was basically the best option after him. With granny out. Beagle is a huge upgrade from Dowd, the only problem I have is that he is signed way too fucking long and worry he won't be as effective in his 3rd/4th year. I hope I'm wrong though. Also another problem with these long term signings are that it takes up prospects space... Like it wouldn't hurt for gaudette to play in ahl for 1 to 2 years and not rush him, but burying him for 3 to 4 years? Wtf m8.
With all these fucked up signings tho, the 4yrs actually work out for the canucks opposed to other teams, cuz most heavy shitty contracts are up when benning needs the cap to sign boeser, ep, Demko etc. And try for fa help. It would only be a problem if the nucks had luxury of elite prospects like Jack Hughes/dahlin/laine/Matthews or other established stars that are willing to sign with the canucks through free agency. That's not the case for Lolnucks sadly so I guess it doesn't matter as much.
I think Baertchi is actually a good signing, he definitely produces like a top 6 player and has above average defensive side to him. Only problem is that he can't seem to play a full season and get 40+ pts. He's also not super amazing or bad, he's just like one of those serviceable player to compliment ur team. Someone useful but I wouldn't qq if he was traded lol.
I'm glad green develops his players and tries to use them best of their strengths. Canucks actually had pretty good record when green utilized his shutdown line with dorsett/sutter/granny. green probably asked for players to create a line like that again with roussel. Beagle to kinda share the role with Sutter, so Sutter doesn't have to be gassed throughout the full season and have back up. Essentially he got rid of players like gaunce, Dowd, motte and upgraded with beagle/Schaller. Green doesn't force boeser to be on the 4th line to start learning how to be a 2 way complete player, and praise players like vey/chaput/megna who is willing to
Play a more complete game since they don't have a luxury offensive gift side to them and stick em in the top 6 even if it's clearly not working.
