Welcome to the frequently asked Guild Wars questions

About Guild Wars

I am thinking of starting a new game, what is Guild Wars like?
The best way to describe it is as a casual MMORPG.
It's fun to progress, and once you've hit max level you've only started!

Is Guild Wars dead?
Guild Wars is an established game, where most people have already played through the content numerous times.
There are only parts in the game that people repetitively play, thus looking for people to play with can be hard.
If you've got someone to play it with, then it's an awesome game to choose.
There are still tons of people playing it still, in their own way.

Is there a trial version of the game?
http://www.guildwars.com offers trial accounts for Prophecies.

Which game should I get?
If you're uncertain whether you'll like guild wars, buy Prophecies.
If you do like the game; you should get all expansions.
You can also just buy all games together for a pack price.
They're really cheap currently anyhow.

Where do I buy the games?
You can either get it at your local retail store.
Or you can buy it online:

Is there a Guild Wars 2 forum?
No, there is no need for it.
There will be a forum once the game is (close to being) released.

Playing the game

Is it better than D2/WoW?
It's different.

What is the best class/build?
There is no ''best'' in Guild Wars.

Where do I go if I have questions about anything ingame?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Main_Page
Make sure to use the search function properly and you'll find much better results.
If you still can't find what you're looking for, feel free to ask in the guild wars forum!

Where do I go if I want advice?
Right here in the general guild wars discussion area.
You can ask basically anything.

Where can I get the best armor?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Armorer
You can check the tables for which armor is available where.
One with the highest armor rating is best.
Beyond that point it is mere eye candy.

Can I buy armor from other players?
No you can not, you can only get it from Armorers ingame.
You can trade other people to get the materials needed to craft the armor.

What build should I use?
http://pvx.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
Shows numerous builds for PvE and PvP.
Try them out, see which you like.
Adjust them to your needs.
Or come up with your own!

Where do I look for a Guild?
There are dozens of Guilds recruiting in game.
Your best bet is to look for one in the mayor cities and try them out!

Is there a Guild Wars d2jsp guild?
No, there is not. However, people tried and failed numerous times.
There are rumours of a succesful in game guild with a majority of jsp'ers in charge.

How do I get into PvP?
Start off by playing RA/JQ.
Get familiar with the skills, combos you encounter and general tactics, to grasp the general idea of PvP.
Having everything unlocked and a PvP character is a pre-requisit.
Try getting into any friendly PvP guild and work your way up.
You can start off doing HA or GvG with them.

Trading on d2jsp

Where do I trade?

Is trading Forum Gold for Guild Wars content considered illegal by ArenaNet?
Yes it is. Selling Guild Wars Gold for anything non-ingame is considered illegal.
Doing services for anything non-ingame is considered illegal.
Use the trade forums at your own discretion.

How much is Guild Wars Gold worth?
You can start off by looking at what other people buy and sell it at:
http://forums.d2jsp.org/forum.php?f=243
If you're unsure after that use the Price Check function in the trade forum.

How to prevent getting Scammed?
The safest way is to use a mediator.
If you decide to use a mediator make sure to look here:
http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=49340187&f=243

You're dealing with people, and they make mistakes.
Here is an extended list with things to try to prevent getting scammed:

Always use a trade topic.
Always make sure the other user offers in the topic.
Get a confirmation, via PM, of his character name.
Make sure you are trading with the correct character in game.
Save all your PM's regarding the trade.
Join Date, Forum Gold, Posts... they mean absolutely nothing.
If you're unsure about the person, use a mediator.

What to do when Scammed?
You should make a post in the SA Forum.
Make sure you save all information properly. All screenshots must be unedited, and must show all information possible. Whether it's relevant or not.
In example; you might need several screenshots to show a single PM.
These are the most vital parts that you need for a succesful report:
When selling ingame items
- A link to the trade thread, with his offer in it.
- A screenshot of the character name from the other person, via PM.
- A screenshot of the trade window. If giving items, add printscreens of every individual item description.
- A screenshot of the chat log, showing that you gave the items to the other person.
When buying ingame items
- A link to the trade thread, with his confirmation that he will sell to you for what you offered.
- A screenshot of the character name from the other person, via PM.
- A screenshot of the trade window. If buying items, add printscreens of every individual item description.
- A screenshot of the chat log, showing that he cancelled the trade.
- A screenshot of him not being in the district anymore. This shows up when you try to add him to your party, after he left.
- A screenshot of him being offline. This shows up in your friendslist if he went offline.
