A critical error has occurred while initializing Direct 3D

i did try to run the d2vid test it just says that this computer cannot run diablo 2

vidio test did not detect any useable video modes please update your system software as follows:

1) instal directx 6.1 or newer (i have directx 11)

op system windows 7

maybe you need to run it in xp compatibility mode?

another possibility is some corrupt system files...insert the Win 7 DVD then go to START > Run andtype sfc /scannow

this will check all urWin 7 system files against those on the DVD and replace any that are corrupt.

only works for windows ultimate and pro i got home premium 64 bit

can it be that driver's are the problem?

sure but w/o knowing what hardware you have....that's hard to answer....w/e u do don't use that stupid windows driver update function.

did you put the Win 7 DVD in ur optical drive, and then go to START > Run and type: sfc /scannow

.....and let that run?

sfc stands for system file checker

still trying to find my disk;/ will take a little while duno where i put it

Right-click on the D2 shortcut, select Properties, click the Compatibility tab, then tick the check box for "Run this program in compatibility mode for", and select Windows XP from the dropdown list. Re-run D2 (it will give you a UAC prompt, unless you have UAC disabled...this is normal).
