Jadinko Hunting: An Alternative to Butterflies
With special thanks to Godel for trap setup.

A shorter guide, this time, with some pictures. Not too hard to pick up, and very worthwhile. These have NO agility requirement, which makes them an incredible alternative to butterflies.

Requirements:
A firm grasp of the Herblore Habitat activity
78+ hunter for Carrion Jadinko
80+ hunter for Draconic Jadinko

While those are the absolute minimum requirements, I strongly suggest that you get yourself a Witchdoctor Mask and top/bottom, as those act as camouflage in the area and will greatly increase your catch rate. In addition to the witchdoctor, 71 summoning for an Arctic bear would be great, but isn't necessary.

Overall, I'd say that it's worth starting this at 78, but being able to use 5 traps will help you considerably.

Getting started:

As you might have guessed, this guide is centered around the hunting of Carrion and Draconic jadinko. As such, I'll break the guide down into two sections, one for each type. First, though, you have to decide which you wish to do, and why. To help you decide which, I've gone ahead and laid out the benefits of each, and the downsides as well.

Carrion:
With a 78 hunter requirement, these are the lower of the two, but not by much. In terms of catch difficulty, they're ranked just about the same as draconic, maybe very slightly easier.

EXP RATE: ~120-160k experience per hour.

Good:
No hunter juju potion required.
- As you might have read in my previous guide, a lot of the higher level jadinko require that you make and use a hunter juju potion every 5-10 minutes to keep them lured. These, though, do not require them. This makes them great for starting.

Only drops herb seeds.
- Each jadinko has a set table of seeds that it drops. These ones only drop the herb seeds, which, to be honest, are the only ones you need to worry about if you're at the point of understanding the activity enough to want to use it for experience.

Less crowded.
- While there's still very few people hunting these, they're secluded to the south. The only other people you'll see frequently are people doing the tracking method, which doesn't interfere with you at all.

Easier trap setup.
- It's not a huge deal, but you'll notice if you stay here for a while.

Bad:
Slightly less experience per hour.
- Don't get yourself worked up over this. It's really not substantial.

Less useful vines.
- Currently, the only use for the pungent vines that they give you are for supercompost.

Smaller area.
- Your arctic bear is kind of huge. Because of this, he'll get in your way a bit if you hunt these, but it's not a big deal.

Draconic:
These require 80 hunter and provide the fastest hunter experience in the game at the moment. Unfortunately, they require that you use a hunter juju potion, but, if you don't mind that, read on.

EXP RATE: 130k-175k experience per hour.

Good:
More experience per hour.
- Pretty obvious and easy to understand. It's not a huge boost, but it's a boost.

Fairly useful vines.
- If you want to make any mining juju potions, you'll be all set after you hunt these for a while.

Larger, open area.
- Your bear won't get in the way nearly as much.

Easy to check on both herb patches.
- This is a pretty laughable upside, but you'd be surprised how often it helps. From the main hunting location of draconics you can see both herb patches and constantly monitor if they're healthy or finished.

Bad:
Harder trap setups.
- Again, not a huge deal, but you do a bit more moving around than you would with carrions.

The need for striped vines.
- Striped vines are used for warding off the common jadinkos, which can hurt your experience per hour gains if there's nobody else hunting them. While you don't use many, you still use some, and you can count that as a downside.

More fails for lower levels.
- If you start doing these at level 80 you'll notice the fails a bit more than you would at carrions. Because of this, it's best to wait.

More competition.
- You're not going to find too many people doing draconics, but you will find quite a few people doing common jadinkos, and if they place their traps near/around yours it can get to be a hassle.

Locations/How to:

If you've decided which one you wish to do from above, you're probably wondering how you should be hunting them.

It's actually quite simple, really, and that's what makes these such a great thing to hunt.

Carrion:

First, you'll want to set up your vegetation so it'll actually lure them.

Plant a green vine flower, change your landscape to the boneyard, and then plant a kalferberry bush.

Exit the main farming area through the south and then head east to the coast. Here, you'll set up your 5 traps as shown...

Thanks to Godel for this, as mentioned near the top. Without his help, this setup would be terrible.

It's seriously as simple as "lay out the traps, collect them when full, lay them back out, repeat." You'll get a ton of herb seeds that you can plant whenever you want, and a TON of vines that you can use for supercompost.

Draconic:

Again, we've got to set you up so you'll actually lure them.

Plant a red vine flower, change your landscape to the dark pit, plant a lergberry bush, and then apply a dose of Hunter Juju to your red vine flower. Reapply this whenever it says that it's run out.

Exit the main farming area to the north, this time, and head east once again to the coast. Your traps are a bit more spread out this time, as the draconics aren't nearly as swarmed as far as spawns go.

Again, it's just a matter of constantly laying your traps as shown. Collect them when they're full or wilted, lay them back down, rake in the experience.

Extra things you should know and do:

While the above works fine, there's a few things that you can do to greatly boost your experience per hour. This section covers those things.

Scentless potions:
These potions cover up your scent for 5 minutes per dose. Basically, they make it so the jadinkos smell more marmasaw trap and less you.

These are made by combining an argway herb with a juju vial, and then adding a shadow vine.

Zamorak's Favour:
These potions give you a 10% increase to all hunter experience gained while hunting in the Habitat. If you can be bothered to hunt the god jadinkos, I definitely suggest you gather yourself some zammy vines to make these. 10% bonus exp is pretty substantial over time. These last 5 minutes per dose, similar to scentless. Repot both at the same time.

These are made by combining a samaden herb with a juju vial, and then adding a zamorak vine.

The Arctic Bear:
Though I mentioned it in the requirements, I thought I'd reiterate it here. It's really, really useful. The bear gives an invisible +7 hunter boost and will help a lot with your catch rate.

The Witchdoctor's Mask:
This one is less useful for Carrion, but if you're hunting Draconic Jadinkos then it's great. Every 10 minutes or so, while hunting Draconics, you have to go and reapply your hunter juju potion to the flower. To do this, just run over to the climbable vine and use your juju on the flower. If you have the mask, though, you can use the teleport mid-animation and save yourself a solid 10-15 seconds of climbing over the vine and running back. It's not substantial, but it's nice because you don't have to pick up your traps every time you reapply the juju.

That's about it. Enjoy.

As per usual, questions/comments welcome, via post or pm.

If you have any questions regarding the minigame itself, please post those HERE, to avoid confusion.

Interesting alternative, but I still love(d) the agility experience in addition to the hunter experience of butterflies; however, at a lower level these seem to yield greater xp/hr than ruby or sapphires.

In addition, I'd recommend the use of Hunting potions. They're rather dirt cheap, and a few extra boosted levels really can't hurt.
