Since I've been running Diablo 2 on my windows 7 computer I have been unable to hear any of the sound effects in the game (teleporting, dropping potions, etc). The music still works fine, but there are no sound effects whatsoever.

I looked it up online and I've tried running the game in compatability mode with no success.

I'm using Windows 7, an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro motherboard, and the onboard sound. It seems like it may be a problem with Direct3D or something like that.

Try this:
  • When in game, press 'esc'
  • Next, press 'Settings'
  • Then press 'Sound (effects?, settings?)'
  • Then turn up your 'Sound (effects volume?)'

you could also check the blizz site and see what sound adapters/drivers and modes are compatible w/ d2 and windows 7 :)

Yeah lol - obviously tried that. In fact, the whole 3d sound stuff is grey'd out for me.

Yeah I checked their site, and it's not much help. I think I might send blizz an email. It sounds like this problem might be due to Windows 7 and is unsolvable for my sound card.

it could be an issue with surround sound if they are running that, the game might not support effects in SS.

It really is, but I need to get a new sound card anyway, so I might just get a creative sound card and use the ALchemy program they have to fix it.
