By 'inside' I mean what's behind the scenes in Vista. DRM embedded, inability to run third party security software, private data collection, the ability to block software they don't approve of being installed... the list is endless.

If people were legit, they wouldn't have to worry about Vista's blocking system. Its thier way of fighting back on piracy, Yeah there is going to be a crack to bypass but they will allways seal it back up.

So every time you want to listen to some music - you're perfectly happy to keep putting the CDs in your drive to play them? Making copies is illegal, so they'll require the CD. Also - any movies that they don't want people to see (or Microsoft investors don't want you to see) can also be stopped. It's not *just* illegal media that it will be affecting. If you want some corporate giant to dictate what you can and can't do with your computer on and off the Internet, that's fine. Personally I'd like to be able to make my own mind up.

You have this wrong, vista has pertection ONLY against piracy.

Really - it doesn't. It has the capability to stop you watching or listening to *anything* that Microsoft or one of their partners doesn't want you to see/hear. Again, copying a CD that you OWN to your hard drive is also illegal. You'll see with the final release and with the issues that come soon after that what they tell you is there, and what's actually there are totally different.

There is no point of using the 64bit version unless you have a 64bit processor. Also there are far less compatable drivers available for the 64bit version.

Probally because you have a illegit copy. Or you have bad hardware, becasue i'm running Vista beta fine.

My response: Vista is coming out in diffrent versions like the Extreme gaming version (min req of 1GB of Vram)
I think all versions have the built in media center. I'm not positive but thats what i heard from my MSDN package. When vista becomes public its going to blow xp out of the water, FYI.

Oh yes, because the 5 licensed, shrink-wrapped copies of Office 2k7 and Vista Ultimate we got direct from Microsoft for testing at my job are totally pirated. rolleyes.gif

Vista is very hit or miss. Some hardware it plays nice with, most it doesn't. Our brand new machine that we bought just for Vista testing likes to shit all over the ethernet and keyboard drivers.

Sounds alot like the discussions that were going on when XP was released and people were still trying to run it on PII 266 Machines with 32 megs of ram. "Omg, I'm not upgrading for that hunk of crap!"

Does anybody have any useful information for this discussion?

You want the more practical diffrence between 32 and 64 bit architechture? Memory addressing capability. Thats really the only tangeble benefit as of right now. There really isn't much available that makes x64 a sure fire win over anything else.

By the way, your Celeron is NOTHING like a core duo. A core duo has 2-4 MB of cache, where as your celeron is lucky if it has 64k. Go install Windows XP on a P 133. Go install Windows 2000 on a 486DX2/66. Windows 95 on a 80386. Make yourself miserable running cutting edge operating system technology on 3 year old hardware, but please, don't try and make a public outcry because you can't tell the diffrence between a Celeron M 1.6 and a Core Duo with 2x 2.6 ghz cores and 4 MB of cache.

EDIT: By the way, for the record, I am running Vista at home. It's the retail copy. I have a decent system, and it works just fine. I've got a topic in here as well, for people who can't get D2 to run on it, but that shouldn't be a problem for you, as you probably can't get desktop compositing to work in the first place (you need a real 3d accelerator).

Please explain to me how you have a retail copy of an operating system that hasn't gone retail yet.

MS Partner / MSDN ftw.

Working for a multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical company has it's advantages as well.

Well, since Vista for MSDN subscribers just was released today, you must have some sort of magic software time machine.
