For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

Christ bridges the gap between the old testament and the new testament that we have today. The laws of Moses could identify sin, but not free us from our guilt. Christ died as our ransom — he took our guilt upon himself on the cross — so that those who have faith in his life, death and resurrection can receive an eternal inheritance that is available to each and every one of us. That is glorious news and our lifelong blessing through human flesh or heavenly spirit. Everlasting happiness and all things victorious will come. We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ.

1st Thessalonians 5:1-11
1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Ephesians 3:16-21

1st Timothy 4:1-16

11 These things command and teach.

13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

– Judges 6:23

The angel of the Lord is speaking to Gideon, who seriously doubts that he is the right man to lead the Israelites into battle against the Midianites. Hiding in a wine press, Gideon is paralyzed by a fear of the enemy and a low self-image. Yet these are the kind of people that God uses for His glory. “Do not fear” is the command that appears more than any other in the Scripture, for God chooses those who know they need his help over those who think that they can do it themselves.
