One thing : defiance isnt needed at wall.Damage in ut is elemental so...
As for gloves , try dual resists gloves ( should be pretty common) or bloodfists.30 fhr , 40 life (awsome ! )

i think everybody will understand that saving 15 str points allows you to put 15 vita instead...

but you're right at Weapon speed, anyway farming torch with near naked char required more safety than speed.

my beginner ladd smiter used crushflange, never got into trouble.

edit : it was a shael'd crushlange.

Another cheap possible is : Wizzy (shael'd) + Rattlecage + Gobs
