Fallout 3 Skills

In Fallout 3 there are 13 different skills the player can choose to create their character.
This guide will explain what each of the 13 skill do.

--- Skills ---
  • Barter - The Barter Skill is used in buying, selling, or trading items through out the game. The higher the Barter skill is the lower prices will be when purchasing items.
  • Big Guns - The Big Guns Skill determines your combat effectiveness with over-sized weapons ( such as the Fatman, Missile Launcher, Flamer ) keep in mind though over-sized weapons can easily weigh your character down.
  • Energy Weapons - The Energy Weapons Skill is used for the characters combat effectiveness with energy-based weapons.
  • Explosives - The Explosives Skill increases the damage of all mines and grenades - the higher the skill the more damage you do. ( Please read the note on the Explosive Skill at the bottom of the page )
  • Lockpick - The Lockpick Skill allows the player to open doors when you do not have the key or code to open it. Certain locked things require a certain Lockpick skill, the higher the skill the more different things you can unlock.
  • Medicine - The Medicine Skill allows more hit points to replenish when using a Stimpak and increases the effectiveness when using any other medicinal item.
  • Melee Weapons - The Melee Weapons Skill determines your combat effectiveness with all melee weapons.
  • Repair - The Repair Skill allows the player to be able to fix broken equipment, machinery and electronics.
  • Science - The Science Skill allows the player to hack terminals, just like the Lockpick Skill some terminals have a higher skill requirement.
  • Small Guns - The Small Gun Skill increases the combat effectiveness of small firearms. ( Pistols, Assault Rifles, Shotguns etc.. )
  • Sneak - The Sneak Skill increases the character's quiet movement and the ability to remain undetected.
  • Speech - There are 2 parts of the Speech Skills - persuasion and deception. Persuasion is the ability to try to convince others that you are correct. Deception is the ability to lie and not get caught.
  • Unarmed - The Unarmed Skill increases the combat effectiveness in fighting with hands and feet.
Note: The Explosive Skills does not pertain to Missile Launchers or Minni Nukes, use the Big Guns skill instead.
