~ Introduction ~

I recently realized that questions concerning PvM Javazons were relatively frequent. In an effort to stack all the necessary information concerning this character, I will consecrate this whole guide to a build that is strictly viable in PvM. Four of my guides were stickied alredy, so I'm getting used to it. I have started planning a Javazon for my younger brother at first and found it quite interesting, so I thought that it could be worthwhile to share the build, even if it might not be anything new for some of you... Anyway, enough blabbering, let's get to the thick of things!

- Can achieve maxed resists
- Can easily get 11k+ Charged Strike*) Based on a build using CoH and Moser's
- Can get 4k+ Lightning Fury*) Based on a build using CoH and Moser's
- Life depends on charms and whether you go max block or not
- Has 100% chances of piercing attack

~ Skill Distribution ~

Passive and Magic Skills (6)

Critical Strike [1]
Penetrate [1]
Pierce [1]*) slvl 9 with gear, +68% chances to pierce through target. Pierce should be skilled before you end with the synergies.
Dodge [1]
Avoid [1]
Evade [1]

Javelin and Spear Skills (103)

Jab [1]
Power Strike [20]
Charged Strike [20]
Lightning Strike [20]
Poison Javelin [1]
Lightning Bolt [20]
Plague Javelin [1]
Lightning Fury [20]

- The order of the synergies doesn't matter, as long as you max Charged Strike and Lightning Fury first. They are your main attacks.
- 109 skill points total, achieved at lvl 98.

~ Stats Distribution ~

Strength: Enough to equip your gear
Dexterity: Enough for gear or enough for max block depending on shield used and preference
Vitality: The rest
Energy:

- You have ranged attacks, so you may choose to get max block or not.

~ Equipment ~

Helmet

Griffon's Eye Diadem
+1 To All Skills
+25% Faster Cast Rate
-15-20% To Enemy Lightning Resistance (varies)
+10-15% To Lightning Skill Damage (varies)

- Those are the most useful stats. The fcr may or may not help you whether you're using Teleport or not. The pierce/mastery adds alot of damage, nonetheless. There are cheaper alternatives, such as the traditional Harlequin Crest, but this will suit us perfectly, so let's stick to that.

- Socket with: Ias jewel or Rainbow Facet

Amulet

Two main options here:

The Cat's Eye
+30% Faster Run/Walk
+20% Increased Attack Speed
+100 Defense Vs. Missile
+100 Defense
+25 To Dexterity

- Each mod is useful, even though +def isn't so important. You should privilege this one if you're using Thunderstroke.

or

Highlord's Wrath
+1 To All Skills
+20% Increased Attack Speed
+ (0.375 Per Character Level) 0-37 % Deadly Strike (Based On Character Level)
Lightning Resist +35%
Adds 1-30 Lightning Damage
Attacker Takes Lightning Damage Of 15

- This one will suit you better if you're using eth Titan's Revenge and want to get more physical throw damage.

Weapon

Two contenders:

Titan's Revenge Ceremonial/Matriarcal Javelin
+150-200% Enhanced Damage (varies)
Adds 25-50 Damage
+2 To Amazon Skill Levels
5-9% Life Stolen Per Hit (varies)
+30% Faster Run/Walk
+20 To Strength
+20 To Dexterity
Replenishes Quantity [1 in 3 sec.]
Increased Stack Size [60]
+2 To Javelin and Spear Skills (Amazon Only)

- Faster run walk helps; replenish quantity makes it very good if you tend to abuse of Lightning Fury a bit too much
- It can be ethereal and/or upgraded for additional physical throw damage

or

Thunderstroke Matriarchal Javelin
+150-200% Enhanced Damage (varies)
Adds 1-511 Lightning Damage
+15% Increased Attack Speed
-15% To Enemy Lightning Resistance
20% Chance To Cast Level 14 Lightning On Striking
+2-4 To Javelin and Spear Skills (Amazon Only) (varies)
+3 To Lightning Bolt (Amazon Only)

- It is obviously better at melee. The pierce on it is nice too.

-There's no need for 6/40 javelins. Those are excessively expensive, so we'll leave that to PvP guys.

Body Armor

Chains of Honor
+2 To All Skills
+200% Damage To Demons
+100% Damage To Undead
8% Life Stolen Per Hit
+70% Enhanced Defense
+20 To Strength
Replenish Life +7
All Resistances +65
Damage Reduced By 8%
25% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items

- Provides a nice resist boost and decent damage along with a little bit of damage reduction. The downfall of it is that it has no ias.

Enigma
+2 To All Skills
+45% Faster Run/Walk
+1 To Teleport
+750-775 Defense (varies)
+ (0.75 Per Character Level) +0-74 To Strength (Based On Character Level)
Increase Maximum Life 5%
Damage Reduced By 8%
+14 Life After Each Kill
15% Damage Taken Goes To Mana
+ (1 Per Character Level) +1-99% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items (Based On Character Level)

- I would mainly consider it for the strength on level and frw. Teleport can be handy, but the Amazon class has poor fcr frames.

Jeweler's Dusk Shroud/Archon Plate of the Whale/Squid
4 Sockets
Up to 100 life

- Socketed with: Ias/res jewels and/or Rainbow Facets

Shield

Moser's Blessed Circle Round Shield
+180-220% Enhanced Defense (varies)
+25% Increased Chance of Blocking
30% Faster Block Rate
All Resistances +25
Socketed (2)

- Decent block, pretty resists and 2 sockets. It has better blocking chances once upgraded, as well as more defense.

- Socketed with: 2x Rainbow Facets

Stormshield Monarch
+ (3.75 Per Character Level) 3-371 Defense (Based On Character Level)
+25% Increased Chance Of Blocking
35% Faster Block Rate
Damage Reduced By 35%
Cold Resist +60%
Lightning Resist +25%
+30 To Strength
Attacker Takes Lightning Damage of 10
Indestructible

- Opt for this one if you use max block and feel that DR% could help. I wouldn't use it without max block in fact, just not worth it.

- Socketed with: Ias jewel or Rainbow Facet

Jeweler's monarch of Deflecting
4os / +20% Increased Blocking, 30% Faster Block Rate

Artisan's tower shield of Deflecting
3os, +20% Increased Blocking, 30% Faster Block Rate, lower requirements

- JmoD can provide the best damage boost among all shields while having a nice block.

- Both can be socketed with ias jewels and/or Rainbow Facets

Shield Switch

Lidless Wall, Sigon's Guard, Splendor,Spirit*) Do not use it unless you have enough strength to do so. It's not worth wasting massive stats.

Gloves

3 Java/20 ias magical gloves
2 Java/20 ias/mods rare gloves*) strength and dex are welcome

Rings

Ravenfrost / Dual leech ring*) Mana steal is excessively important. Those can spawn with great adds such as resists and stats.

Belt

The one and ONLY

Razortail Sharkskin Belt
+120-150% Enhanced Defense (varies)
+15 Defense
+10 To Maximum Damage
Piercing Attack (33) -> this is of the utmost importance
+15 To Dexterity
Attacker Takes Damage of (1 Per Character Level) 1-99 (Based On Character Level)

- This is needed to get 100% pierce, which is a good chunk of your damage.

Boots

Waterwalks, Sandstorm Treks, Aldur's Advance, Safety boots with frw/fhr and resists, War Travelers*) additional throw damage

- Those are all viable options. Pick your favorite!

Charms

Torch
Annihilus
7+ Java skillers*) Having some free space is handy. Some useful mods would be 7 frw, 6 strength, 6 dex, life.
Resist and life small charms - pump your resists with them if your build lacks some or just get lifers

Quote (JayPee @ Sun, 16 Aug 2009, 18:09)
The Infinity Merc
Recommended types: Nm defensive (Holy Freeze), Nm offensive (Might), Hell combat (Prayer)

Helm: Andariel's Visage, Vampire Gaze
Armor: Treachery, Fortitude
Weapon: Eth Infinity Tresher

Notes on the setup: The only downfall of Infinity is its lack of IAS%, that's why I'm recommending a Tresher (-10 WSM) which is the fastest elite polearm in the game. Andys socketed with an IAS jewel + Treachery allows your merc to reach the 4.5 fpa breakpoint (4.54 attacks/sec.) Treachery + Vampgaze socketed with an IAS jewel gives 60% ias, which is enough for 5 fpa (4.16 attacks/sec.) Your merc also gets up to 35% DR when Fade procs. Andys (IAS jewel) + Fort reaches 5.5 fpa (3.84 attacks/sec.) I wouldn't recommend Fort + Gaze, since it has a slower attack speed than the other combinations.

Here are the different Jab IAS breakpoints with a Tresher so you can customize your setup:
CodeIAS --- FPA --- Attacks/sec.
0% --- 6.5 --- 3.33
8% --- 6 --- 3.57
22% --- 5.5 --- 3.84
42% --- 5 --- 4.16
75% --- 4.5 --- 4.54
142% --- 4 --- 5

Using other commonly used polearms:

Colossus Voulge/Cryptic Axe
CodeIAS --- FPA --- Attacks/sec.
0 --- 8 --- 2.77
5 --- 7.5 --- 2.94
11 --- 7 --- 3.12
22 --- 6.5 --- 3.33
35 --- 6 ---3.57
56 --- 5.5 --- 3.84
89 --- 5 --- 4.16
147 --- 4.5 --- 4.54
292 --- 4 --- 5

Low damage dealing version
Recommended type: Hell combat (Prayer)

Helm: Vampire Gaze, Crown of Ages, Kiras Guardian
Armor: Chains of Honor, Shaftstop, Guardian Angel
Weapon: Regular Infinity Voulge

Notes: It's pretty pointless to add IAS charts, since all you want to do is keep him alive.

- Taken from one of my other guides.

~ Lightning Immune Monsters ~

- Even if lvl 12 Conviction aura negates resists by 85%, some mobs still remain immune. Those are the ones that have 117% lightning resistance and above. Note that the "-(45-55)% To Enemy Lightning Resistance" on Infinity doesn't apply to your attacks, so this roll isn't important.

- You can find mobs that will remain immune by reading this bestiary: http://classic.battle.net/diablo2exp/monsters/

- You can consider using Jab on them or just letting your merc kill them if he deals sufficient damage.

~ Special Thanks ~

To The Arreat Summit for some of the basic information and item stats.

To Faelwen for confirming my thoughts concerning Infinity and linking me to a bestiary.

To TheSonOfDisaster for pointing out some typo mistakes, because I can't spell blabbering properly. ^_^

i wonder when I will actually see a good guide and not some poorly executed draft @ jsp

I just love decoy for herding

your itemsection is pretty poor, there are many possibilities for every slot

enigma is pretty retarded because of several reasons (horrbile cast rates, low damage, no safety and so on)

li?(relying on infi mer cis imho pretty poor, there are more possibilities than that)

whjy 2 choices for javelins... one is for LF the other for chs

anybody who suggests a merc from hell is pretty stupid because the ones from normal have more life/stzr/dex etc...

anti Im with low damage is also pretty stupid because of several reasons, among them the easy way of c ountering it with decoy

ML and LL are rather uneffective, a rare leech ring wouold be wasted imo.. I'd put on a soj/stat ring/bk and wear silkweaves as boots. Mana problem solved

I didn't think about decoy, could have mentionned that.

I'm not a fan of Enigma on them either, but I felt like some people would still want to see it there.

Two suggestions seems reasonable, and the explanation behind it is logical. You don't need both.

I know that, it was mentionned for its aura.

All in all, pretty negative :(

I should have added that, thanks.

Stop arguing about enigma, even with low fcr, enigma > on java.

Good guide, i liked it. Sticky/profile.
