I disagree.... i think a bettter solution would be
(upon registering & logging in for the first time)

a user should be directed to the general help unified sticky....

When I registered to this site, I was pretty lost on where to do stuff. Also I had no idea about the things you can accomplish here. I voted in favor of this suggestion, because it clearly states what to do and where. Also I liked the first layout better, because when you type out the hyperlinks like that, it becomes very user-friendly. Some minor adjustments could be done though.

And all those rules and stickies are a lot of reading, so I think that a better place for them would be in the profile, where they are easily found. If you are only redirected there once when you register, the newcomers might feel exhausted by the sudden flood of information.

I like the idea, however loads of hyperlinks for the newby might be a bit confusing.

i don't mind reading, but you may be correct. There is a lot of information in the unified sticky.
i'm not sure that filling a users profile with helpful information is actually helpful though.

I think Paul/Medis should pm with every single newcomer !
Just to be sure that they have understood all the rules and know where to get right kind of help.

Stickies and all those infopacks are maybe too formal for most of the newcomers.
There are lot of youngs/old people who dont even speak/read english fluently (Speacially gers @ europe ;) )
They should get help from there private Country-Medi with there own language..

I say yes, but have this disappear after I would say, eh...500 posts? Something like that. People begin to get the hang of the site around then. Make sure they have a full understanding of what the site has to offer to everyone on here. I know there is a lot to handle.

At least it would help actually finding the sticky though. It's almost as good if a pm is sent with a link to the sticky, but if it is already in your profile, it could feel "closer" and more easily accessible. Still, regardless of the way this information is sent directly to the new user, it would still be an improvement.
