excuse my ignorance but whats so great about 3 to cloak of shadows and shadowmaster versus venom/fade/mind blast?

Cloak loweres enemy def and raises yours therefore it makes it easier for you to hit them and harder for them to hit you

Not all hybrids invest in SM, this claw saves points also you'd need venom on BOTH claws for it to be effective due to the fact that you get +3 venom on bo switch
