Have you tried to switch from 3d acceleration to 2d? Run the video test and select direct draw (2d). Your graphics card may not be supported, and it could be incompatibility causing issues. If you are using windows Vista, well, thats a mess. You would most likely need 2d, and you would also have to right click on the d2 shortcut, go into compatability settings, and set it for Windows XP, and to disable the areo interface (cant remember the exact setting name, my vista machine is shut down right now. Anyway, try 2d settings.

Sorry, missed part of your post. Just realized that this problem jsut started on an existing installation. Check your recent updates to windows. Have you just recently upgraded to Serivce Pack 3? Have your graphics cards drivers been updated recently? Try reinstalling you graphics card drivers just to be on the safe side. Micro$oft may have downloaded a generic driver that could be causing problems.

Use the edit button.

And line 1646 specifically deals with compressed character data, video settings wont bother it at all. In general its due to something being corrupt, such as the CD or the installation.

And try not to bump posts that are towards the bottom of the page, aim for the top 5 or so if they haven't been answered. Older ones will be bumped by the creator if they still need help.

For fuck sakes. I hate keyboards. I pressed something that made the whole browser close, so now I have to re-type. ><

Anyway... I've changed PC's - no change. And there's no way in hell I'm formatting the hard drive - haha.

I know exactly when I get my error when I do get it.

It's when I'm going to switch characters (same or different account, happened on both). I'd click the char I want, and suddenly right after I clicked it, the error popped up. This is the only time this error ever comes up on me. So I wonder if you get your error on the same thing as me? Or have you paid any attention?

yep. that's the first case. but later it will spread also to the point when you join a game or create one. the error will occur then too.
upon closer inspection on my machine it might be that memory chips are physically damaged. but how on earth could diablo do that?

i'm not really sure about this yet. running memtest+ as soon as i find time.

I've had this a few times, Its a problem with remove files from your Diablo II folder and then replacing them, or using keylogger.

Your best bet is to just reinstall.

Hmm,
I used to get the same problem I fixed it by just Uninstalling Diablo II then Re-installing it.
Sorry if this does not help.
Edit: Still Get It Sometimes

Hmm i reinstalled mine aswell but i dont think i have had it ever since, i have had d2 errors but very rare and not as i used to anyway.. Try re install that might help

Had the problem for a bit, I downloaded http://www.ccleaner.com/ to clean up my registry and haven't had the problem since.
