For the record, he wasn't scared shitless because he was around everyone strong and brave (AKA luffy, zoro, sanji, franky)
He can be brave and talk shit behind all of them
But when he had to fight a poisonous/explosive logia or a dragon. Yeah be very afraid.
Or fighting sugar the scary child who turns you into toys or a logia slime that explodes and can kill a fly from far away.
He didn't change because his environment in that island wasn't scary. It was a food island full of nice ecosystem for his sniping.
Only reason I bet that he became buff is because he over did his diet and kept going trying to not be eaten alive

well im just saying i consider ussop to be quite a good asset to strawhats now and he should act like it more

Chopper, Nami and Ussop being the same way they are is what makes us love OP.
If everyone is badass and not scared of anything, then it's just all action and no comedic things will happen ever.
