I think your result looks like the one in the second link because the contrast between the different colours is too big. There is too much detail ( for a result like the the one in the first link) , also in the shading. Maybe it would also help

i would like to know how he did the side light//ripplish effect

as in like that did he use to create the light then what tools he used to do it

read this outloud and tell me it makes sense
but it looks to me like he just simple did new layer, image> apply image
filter>distort>ripple
then erased everything but those edges
if that's what you're talking about...

yes i am, but it seems smudged more then ripple'd

id say he smudged it then sharpened it a bit.. maybe ripple efterwards..
